Calling shots????????

Could someone please explain how and what calling your shots means, I have heard people talking about it but when I searched I could only find motivational garbage.

Briefly, calling your shot means that you are looking so hard at the sights that you have an image of the sight picture as the shot breaks and can "call" where it hits. Then look at the target and see if you were right. If so, great. If not, there is something wrong in your zero or your shooting technique and should be identified and corrected.

If you are shooting one of the speed games like IDPA or IPSC, you must be able to call your shots, there is no time to peer at the target to see if you got a hit. Call a miss or wide hit and make it up instantly; call a center hit and move along.

Your front sight will tell you where your bullet went. Once you have mastered shot calling you will know if you need to make up a bad shot.
Easiest way to learn the technique is to fire one shot at a time and call where each shot hits on the target based on where the front sight was when the gun fired.
Use two bullseye targets. One to shoot and one on the bench by you. After each shot place an empty case on the target where you think the bullet hit when the gun fired. Use a spotting scope to verify your hits.

And further, a true shot calling meant that you NEVER looked at your target to confirm the hit. You knew it was there, it is the best "fire and forget" skill that you can use with a gun. The brianenos.com forum is the best place to discuss any practical shooting skill online.
