View Full Version : Ruger Mark II/III Finishes
How are the blueing on these pistols? Do they hold up well to abuse and years of not shooting with it? Which finish do you prefer? Stainless or Blue? Thanks for all inputs.

I prefer stainless...it's more than a finish. You can remove scratches and dings with a piece of crocus cloth (or if you feel energetic...that pesky billboard).
agree on ruger's billboards. next time they will have the full website, phone and fax numbers written all over the gun. well, might as well include a 1-800 number on it too.
The blueing is not a beautiful high gloss old school S&W type, but what is today? It looks fine however, I've got a '58 and '64 that look real decent. All blueing jobs require some care to stay looking good. I like the Rugers in blue. SS is great too. The billboard will succumb easily to the right tools.
stainless steel for me ;)

+1 on stainless, but that's just personal opinion.
Have friends with blue gun with mucho, mucho rounds thru them. The blueing does get a little thin over the years but hey, the guns still shoot just fine.
You just can't ask more from a gun that only costs a few hundred dollars.

I have a blued one that will soon have a parkerizing coming. I like the blued gun but I want something that I dont have e wipe dont when I am finsihed playing with it. Plus I bought it with the reddot on it and the bluing is gone under the mount. So I want to have to parkerized. I like the blued Rugers but you know, its all personal opinion. I have changed from a bluing fan to a stainless fan in my older age I guess I am getting lazy.

some of the polimer bake on camo earth tones look good.moreso on a semi auto. hard to beat a pritty deep rich 1950 blue job.nickel is also deep and very attractive.more depth than polished SS.
Hey sir Valor! Bought a Ruger last gunshow?
