View Full Version : Rear sight alignment (TFO's)
I found out that my LGS doesn't actually use any special tool for installing TFO's. They just align it by eye, put some "glue" on the screw threads, and put it in place.
After finding out about this I looked at my 22, 23, and 27 which all have the TFO's and noticed that sure enough, the rear sight is off dead-center by a hairline or so.
My question is, does it matter? Is it worth it for me to order a universal sight tool and redo it myself? Or should I just leave it?

I think it is because TFO's are so loose in the dovetail, that you don't need special tools. The way your gun shop does it, is the way everyone else does it also.
Do your guns shoot where you point them, or not? If they hit what you are aiming at, obviously, you don't need to mess with them.
Mine is not centered and it shoots poa at 25 yards..

Depends, where is POI relative to POA?

When i got my sights put on they were real off, so i just eyeballed it and got close enough where it shoots where i point it, out to 25 yards. And that big front sight basically coveres half the target at 25 yards.

When my TFO rear slipped off my G32 I tried shooting my way back to zero. It's really easy. I just shot 3 strings at a + drawn on a target at about 10 yards, and made adjusments. They should have come with an allen wrench. I feel the more you can do without paying a gunsmith the better. Especially Glocks. They are the most user friendly guns I own.
backing up to 15 and 25 yards was about as good as you can get w/ a 4" barrel. Generally conststant in the 7-8 ring

Yeah, I could adjust them - but the LGS used some sort of pink glue when they applied them, so I didn't want to mess with that.

You can get a small tube of loctite at Autozone. I tried to adjust my POA when I first got my TFO's installed at a gun show. But aiming slightly left of the target after a while felt retarded and when they completely slipped off I sure wasn't going to pay the gunshop $25 to replace them. YMMV

I adjusted my TFO rear sight just a hair right-of-center. I too got tired of aiming slightly of center to hit the target, even though my sight was aligned dead-on-center. I don't know for sure but I've always thought it's because of the ever so tiny amount of play in the standard Glock slide/frame fit. I'm talking about only a hair's width.
Also the loctite is a must with TFO sights.

Was it loctite? They put some on the bottom too.
I've never seen pink loctite. I've only seen red, blue, and purple.
It was in a tiny tube, about the size of a super-glue tube.
I am tempted to get a tube and readjust next time I go to a range.
