View Full Version : Insight Technology SSL-1 - *New Product*
Insight Technology is getting close to shipping their answer to the LED lights now popular on the market. Please find below the product brochure for the SSL-1 LED light.
They are supposed to ship end of December and retail for about $150. To my knowledge they are not working on a laser/light version similar to the TLR-2.

I believe they are going to miss the price point if they don't street sell for $100.

Sure is a hell of a lot cheaper than the Surefire X200. Although the Surefire is really really nice.
Maybe so... but at 150 its not as cheap as the TLR-1 which it appears to be the competition for.

TLR had a 3 watt LED.
SSL-1 has a 5 watt LED.
Surefire X200B has a 5 watt LED.
TLR has a basic HA-II anodizing.
SSL-1 has Mil-Spec HA-III anodizing.
X200B has a Mil-spec HA-III anodizing.
TLR has a locking thumbscrew to achieve a tight fit to the rail.
SSL-1 has a true picatinny 1913 attachment to attach to the rail.
X200B has both a picatinny 1913 and weaver rail attachments.
No the SSL-1 is not going after the TLR-1, it is going after the Surefire X200B, and with a MSRP of $100 less than the 200B I think they have a real winner here.
Excellent dissection of the details Wiseman. Your name suits you. I stand partialy corrected.

Last I talked to Insight, they bumped the release to sometime in January instead of December. :( Sucks cause I want to get one to try out but hate waiting.

CG, I understand what you're saying, but I also feel that the SSL-1 vs. the TLR-1 in performance and price will be just like M3 vs. M3X in the fact of will the people pay a little more for a little more lumen output. Just my thought though.
If they make a longarm tapeswitch available for it then I'm definitely interested...

Has anyone received the size specifications for the new light? I might be interested in buying one (or more!) but it has to fit in a Safariland duty holster. Hopefully it was designed to be the same size as a M3 or a X200.

Have you heard any news on the release date yet? Last I heard from Insight it would be January...but no specific date at the time.

One of the big factors in deciding/buying tactical light for me is runtime as well. TLR has one hour advantage over Surefire X200B.

Not sure if anyone cares, but talked with Insight again...looks like the release is bumped to mid-end of Feb. now. :( Personally got me bummed...but hopefully it'll prove to be worth the wait.

jeez i've been waiting for this to come out.
This good timing for me because I'm getting ready to buy the TLR-1. However, I don't want to wait until the end of February (or later).

The release date has been moved to April now. Here's the reply I got from Insight(very quick response, BTW).

Chris,
Thank you for inquiring with Insight. It looks like the release date is moved out once again. I am sorry to say the April time frame. Hopefully you will not be disappointed once it is released. If you have any further questions or concern don't hesitate to contact me.

From the photos, correct me if I'm wrong but the construction of this new weapon light looks like the majority of the body is polymer.
If this light is going to be priced at ~ $150.00 - $175.00 I don't think it will be in any competition with the X200B. Right now from a good online store (Ebay) you can get the X200B for low ~ $200-230 Shipped.
I got mine off Ebay NIB a few months back for $206.00 Shipped.

Well okay.....you're wrong
It's made from type III hard anodized aluminum, same as the Surefire. Take a look at the link in the original post.
We just received our shipment, in case anyone wants to try them out! Here is a link:
