View Full Version : Where to shoot in Beaufort SC

I'm moving to Beaufort SC (pronounced "byoo-fort" in SC) to start a new job, and was wondering if there are any GT'ers down that way that could point me in the direction of a good range. Also, where are the best places to get your gun fix in that neck of the woods. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Ricky's Gunshop in Beaufort is a nice shop with an indoor pistol range. They're a Glock Ddealer, and they serve the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

In Okatie, just 15 minutes away, is Palmetto State Shooting Center (http://www.palmettostateshooting.com/pss_index.htm) I go there. Carl and Bob have the best indoor range around, they know their stuff, and they treat you right. I bought my Taurus PT745 Mil Pro there, and will continue to buy from them.

Ricky's is toast.

Palmetto State is the best.

I live in Beaufort also. Great town. Drop me a line any time at valmetshooter@aol.com

I'm also a North Carolinian moving to the Beaufort area.

Can anyone recommend an outdoor rifle range around that area?
Preferably 100 or better, but I'll take what I can get.

there are three options for outdoor rifle ranges.......none are exactly good

1. Outdoor range in Ridgeland - think it is called das lupes or something like that. 300yds. PAIN IN THE ASS to deal with. Owner is a jerk. It basically is there private club.....outsiders are welcome to pay.....but then they are such idiots when you shoot...that most do not come back. Dangerous range design...bathroom is BEHIND the rifle berm....and you walk between two active ranges to acess it.....all to go to a porta potty. Recommend all stay clear of this. Cost approx $200 annual last I checked

2. Public Range in Richmond Hill GA - south of Savannah. 100 yard range. Open to the public. Cost is free. Lots of yahoos and idiots there. Have seen numerous accidental discharges, sweeping of people with loaded guns...very unsafe. UNSUPERVISED Range. Last time I was there, the range was hot......as people are shooting....a lady and her hubby....proceed to WALK DOWN THE RANGE to set up targets.....WHILE others are shooting. Immediate cease fire called......they had NO clue.Hate going there. Do NOT GO ALONE. Take someone you trust to watch the guns....theft of guns at the range has occured while people are down range.

3. Charleston area....there are several options there....but all are at least 1.5 hours away.

4. Parris Island has a Rod & Gun Club....I need to get over there and check it out. Last I was there, I thought it was only pistols. PI has BEAUTIFUL rifle ranges....some recently updated with auto targets by Blackwater.....damn...wish I was able to shoot on those ranges.

feel free to email me when you get here...I live in Beaufort

good luck

B Wood,

Well, I've been here a while now in Beaufort, and I have to say that you're right -- the pickins is slim. Most of my shooting thus far has been on friends' land, and that always feels like imposing. Not in the Corps, but I've heard there are otions open to civilians at the MCAS? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
