View Full Version : Dry Firing an 870 Occasionally?

When I carry either of my two 870Ps, I prefer to carry 'cruiser ready', with a full mag tube, an empty chamber, and the firing pin forward. Is there any risk of damage from just occasionally pulling the trigger on an empty chamber with an 870P?
Thanks,
Vig

Not a problem. You can't hurt a 870. With the bolt closed and trigger pulled, (empty chamber) it is some times refered to as a "storage position", totaly safe.

Thanks, Glockdude. Actually, that is in fact how I store a few old long guns. Even a Marlin .22 rimfire that I haven't fired in over 30 years. I figured it was the least of the evils.
I got so tired of looking at 870 Express rust buckets at work, I sold both of mine. Bought one nice used 8-shot 870P with rifle sights and a Speed Feed 1 stock, and a new old stock 7-shot 870P with a walnut stock. I bought a Speed feed 1 stock for the 7-shot, but so far I haven't had the heart to lose the walnut stock set it came with.

870's.
Enjoy the best of both worlds. 1 with the speedfeed stock, the other the Walnut.
