View Full Version : loaded chamber indicator
Does either the USP, USPc, or P2000 come with a loaded chamber indicator?

Yes they all do. The extractor doubles as the loaded chamber indicator.
If the extractor is slightly raised then there is a round in the chamber. If the extractor is flush then the chamber is empty.
Then the amount of raise must be very small. The USP9F that I handled today showed no perceptible raise on the extractor. I'll have to try it again but I did not see enough movement in the extractor to be noticable.

Yes it's very small. The muzzle end of the extractor is raised. I just checked mine, it has a small amount of red showing when loaded. My gun is a USP tactical. Most of the time a press check is better to confirm a round is in the chamber.
Some people will argue that a press check isn't sufficient because the round might not get pulled out of the chamber. They confuse checking to see that the gun is loaded with checking to see the gun is empty. Obviously if you want the gun loaded and don't see a round get pulled back from the chamber you'll investigate things more.
Situations where there is low light is where the loaded chamber indicator is nice to be able to feel. If you scratch your finger nail across it when loaded it will catch the nail.

+1 to all these points. It's an extra indication that the round is chambered for when you are ready to fire, it's not there to tell you the gun is clear... because every automatic with the slide forward should be considered loaded at all times.
Thanks guys and dittos to Creeper. I agree that such an indicator is to confirm that you are loaded prior to firing, not to tell you that you have cleared the weapon. I just wish it was a larger indicator aka the Glock extractor.
