My son left Sunday for MCRDSD, with an expected graduation date of 02-02-07.

I know his MOS is Infantry, and he'll go to SOI after boot camp. He said if things go as planned, then he probably will go to VA, for his Security Forces training.

Can someone elaborate on Security Forces...I can't find much info on it anywhere.

Security forces provide force protection and guard special weapons facilities. It is a B billet for second term Marines and Officers and an entry level contract for enlisted 03s.

Mostly either are assigned to a FAST team or to a company that guards a fixed site.

Thanks, RM. David did say he was hoping for a FAST team assignment, we just didn't know exactly what that entailed.

Well FAST (Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Teams) are deploy-able force protection teams. When the Cole was bombed a FAST element was sent to provide force protection to the ship and the recovery effort. They are often sent to embassies to bolster their defenses.

I went to that school in 1988. Lots of shooting:thumbsup:

Just remember that FAST is a defensive unit.

Security Forces is why my son joined the Marines. He saw a picture of a stack of Marines in full body armor getting ready to kick down a door and make an entry a la SWAT. From boot camp at Parris Island he went to SOI. From there he went to security guard school in Norfolk. After that he was sent to Kings Bay GA. He convinced them that even tho he was a year younger than what they were looking for he would be a good candidate for CQB school, so they sent him back to Norfolk for that school. And yes, he did want to go to a FAST team, but once he got settled in at Kings Bay he enjoyed the 2 years he spent there.

And as someone already said they do train to shoot the pistol and rifle about 4 times as much as other units do.
