My department's Emergency Response Teams still has two MP-5's left on each team. I went through a FAM course last week and had to clean one of them. They suck to clean and it takes forever.
Anyone have any tricks to make it easier? Not shooting it is not an option.
The special (and EXPENSIVE) chamber brush makes for a more thorough job; but there's no way to make it any less of a PITA.
I feel your pain; I toted a squirt gun for many years on SWAT, until we switched to CAR-15s. Know what? The M-16 types are, IMO, only SLIGHTLY less of a PITA to clean.
If your squirt gun is an SD, BE SURE to acquire and use the special suppressor-cleaning tool after every session; if you don't, the suppressor will weld itself to the barrel.
We still have some collapsible-stock MP-5s for vehicle assaults; but other than that we've long gone over to the .223 carbine. It is simply a much more flexible system.
Hey, did you ever get a white light mounted on your rifle?
.
I have shot one once but never cleaned. The MP5 is a cool weapon

There is no easy way to clean auto weapons. You could buy a large and VERY expensive ultrasonic cleaner; or you can do what we did and cut a metal drum lengthwise [ala an improvised BBQ] and fill it with cleaner. A portable air compressor helps to dry the weapon.

Thanks for your responses. I no longer have the problem. I was issued an M-4 which is a weapon I am much more familiar with. Love the M-4 Full auto fun.
best way to clean a H&K MP-5 is to make rank and hand it to the subordinate.......LOL
and yes they suck to clean
