SomeDay 11-16-2006, 22:08 They're cheaper than the Mossberg. Thanks for the feedback. gruntmedik 11-17-2006, 00:06 Forgive me, I didn't mean to sound snobbish. If it's all you have to work with, make it work. Practice reloading til you got it down cold. With an unloaded shotgun, double check it, then see how manueverable it is in your home. It's like the old saying, "Beware the man with only 1 gun, as he probabaly knows how to use it." Then save your money til you can get something more suitable to your needs. 9mmMike 11-17-2006, 10:23 I recall a fellow over on TFL or THR who was using similar singleshot, external hammer, SG's as HD guns for elderly folks who did not want to mess with a lot of controls. He was, I think, using 20 ga. guns and trimming them to legal limits. They are easy to use and hide and quite cheap. LabTech 11-17-2006, 17:47 I buy the H&R's or the NEF's for my kids as their first shotgun to teach them to make the shot count, then I buy them a Remington. I thought the OP was talking about the cheap NEF pumps, rather than the traditional single-shot...? (By the way, I like the minimum-dimension break-open single shot shotgun, for any role that such a single-shot gun can play. A single-shot 20-gauge can be a most devestating weapon, if you are the one who takes a round of #2 or #3 buckshot from it at close range! The simplicity and reliability of such a gun are appealing. A hammer extension is often a must for some older folks to get enough leverage for theri aged hands and fingers to cock the hammer, though.....) -ET SomeDay 11-18-2006, 21:16 Originally posted by ElevatedThreat NEF has both single-shot and pump guns named "Pardner" I believe. I think I will save up a little and get a better one and just use the hand guns for now. wonderwolf 11-21-2006, 00:05 They work...watch how much you cut off. the weight of the barrel serves to lever it open when you hit the lever. I cut one of mine down for rabbits and I have to work the barrel by hand to open it...not to mention the gun weighs 5 pounds..it recoils about as much as my .458 win mag with slugs...Percival has shot it one handed with express loads and lost some skin while doing it but managed to catch the shotgun in the other hand as it flew out of the first.... and then I saw you were not talking about single shots gruntmedik 11-21-2006, 09:35 Originally posted by SomeDay Yes, I was talking about the pumps. At least in CA, you can't keep the gun loaded while in a vehicle, but you can have the gun with buck/slugs on a side saddle. Seems pretty interesting and easy to load in hurry. I like the older Choate stocks and have had converted two NEF/HR actions with them. The new web site is a poor upgrade of thier old one. The search feature is kind of funcky. Storage stock: http://www.riflestock.com/images/Products/Survivor_Stock_Forend.jpg http://www.riflestock.com/catalog_page_detail.cfm?recordno=1&Product_CatalogID=2870&ProductNumber=19%2D02%2D02&ProductCode=33&ProductSubCodeID=198&NewProduct=0 I prefere this one: http://www.riflestock.com/images/Products/H-R_TAMMER.jpg http://www.riflestock.com/catalog_page_detail.cfm?recordno=1&Product_CatalogID=2875&ProductNumber=19%2D02%2D06&ProductCode=33&ProductSubCodeID=199&NewProduct=0 wonderwolf 12-14-2006, 10:02 I have thought about getting one of those survival stocks for a while now. Havnt felt one to see if I like it or not. I'm afraid to put it on my 5 pound gun. I think the gun would way about 3.5 pounds after you put the stock set on it. It would make for a nice survival gun though. Some buck and slug a little bird shot and a few 12ga flares. vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
