I have the opportunity to buy a NIB blued PPK/S imported by Interarms that was made in W. Germany in 1980.
Asking price is $750.
What are your thoughts?
It would be a shooter, not a safe queen.
Are the guns from this time period significantly better than the S&W versions or the later Interarms versions?
Thanks,

The asking price for the pistol is good. Since it is a German produced model, it is going to command a higher price (Walther no longer produces the PP PPK PPK/S). The quality is going to be far better than an S&W model. Interarms produced pistols are rather hit-or-miss in quality of manufacture; especially those produced in the late 1990's. I have seen NIB German produced PPK/S going anywhere from 900 to slightly over 1K. You should give very serious consideration in purchasing it. You won't be disappointed at all. Parts and holsters are very plentiful.
My US made stainless PPK/S is an 1980 (IA) date code and has been a flawless example so I've got to think that if Interarms had its US act together then Walther must have been prodding them to copy the German mfg. Sounds like a winner though if you are going to carry it keep it clean, especially around the grip so rust doesn't form.

I would buy it befor that S&W want a be. I would look for a good American Interarms also. Can be had for a lot less and carries as well and shoots as good. Mine is in pocket at present time.
German first if can afford
Interarms next
S&W Did I say Interarms or Maybe a Kel Tec in 380.Either be better made .
Sorry folks I have yet to see a really well made S&W PPK/S their rough . I check every New PPK/S or PPK that comes in store Just not their in QC compaired to German or Interarms.
too rich for my blood.my brand new at the time ppk/s interarms cost me 319 dollers back in late 90.thats enough for an old design heavy for cal pocket pistol.

All I can say is WOW!
Of all the guns I've owned, and there have been MANY, I have NEVER seen a better made pistol! Those Germans sure know how to make a weapon!
No wonder Bond carried a PPK! I can assure you it wasn't an American version! There is NO COMPARISON between the American PPK/S I once owned and this one. Every part and every detail is superior!
This one will be a keeper!

I came to the exact same conclusion when I bought my first German produced PPK.
How do you think the quality of the French-made Walthers (Manurhin) compares to the German guns? I'm looking at a PPK/S with Interarms markings that was made in France in the 1980's and it looks quite good, but I haven't seen a German PPK recently for comparison.
I am not sure till what time Manhurin made the PP series for Walther... but there should not be much difference if any at all.....
Even after Walther was allowed to manufacture guns again in Germany, Manhurin made the parts for Walther and then they were shipped to Germany for assembly/QA...hence the stamp on them "made in Germany"
Walther now has a PPK/E (which is a moded PPK/S) that is made by I think FEG in Hungary for Walther.... so I think Walther after the war never resumed 'production' of the PP series but had it contracted out.... they even sell the S&W made PPk and PPK/S in Germany now

All french made PP.. PPK... PPK/S are C&R though... so if you have a class3 it's good for you....
they should be just a bit less in price but not much... as always condition, condition
I stand corrected......
Walther did resume production of the PP and PPk in 1986
The Manurhin/Walther PPK/S I was considering was on Gunbroker (#62899469). It is nickel plated, NIB with all papers including the French proof certificate. I was willing to go to $900-1000 for this gun, but it went for the astounding price of $1825!
Is this what these guns bring nowadays? I'm not a Walther expert, so I'd be interested in any comments. What do you think a lightly used one would go for?
Well first off Joe/Deb always have first class items for sale....
now to the PPK/S that was for auction..... it is a most interesting PPK/S as it does not have the usual "french" marked slide markings on the left side of the slide... but instead has the German markings on the slide and the french proofing and "made in France" on the frame.....
it might be worth that kinda money to some collectors...
I would stick with something you can shoot.... and will cost you a lot less money.....
If you want low hazzle shopping and don't mind paying a bit extra for being able to just pick and buy I would try simpson... they do have many PPK/S's from France... you can do better than their price but you just never know how long it might take to find one...

I bought a PP from these guys.. and was happy... as it did not have a "visible" import stamp on the slide.. it is "hiding" in the magwell
Ok one more reply to this....
looking at the bidds.... I think somebody wanted this PPK/S badly....
I think it is way over priced.. and your price range would have been ok... but this is nuts and I think it justed ended in a bid war.. and maybe some wife wanted to get a nice christmas present for her hubby....
