a double stack IED hole in front of my humvee. i was lucky enough to be riding gun this day instead of being dismounted (they're the ones that it was blown on, no injuries, just a short firefight afterwards)

GermanyBound,

Congrats on making it through your tour. Where near Ramadi were you? I was at FOB Manhattan (about 15km east of Combat Outpost on Route Michigan) when I was there (Aug 04-05). If things have not changed much there then it is still a pretty rough neighborhood.

what little time we were in camp instead of in the field, we were at Camp Blue Diamond, just down the road from Camp Ramadi. we had to travel MSR Mobile alot to get back and forth. i'm pretty sure the actual name of the place we patrolled was Jazeera. our AO butted right up to the Euphrates River just south of Ramadi city. and yeah, it's still a hot little hellhole....

lcarreau, you have an awesome first name! mine is Lonnie too

OK, the southern part of Al Jazeera was in our AO. So we've patroled some of the same ground.

I gotta figure out how to post pictures on the web.

You still in? How long do you have on your enlistment? I got out in March. My old Battalion was reflagged last September and just went back over there a few months ago.

We caught more than a few. The "kill" ratio over there is at least 10:1

I enjoy being a gunner qute a bit! Except for when my AG went on leave. 900 rounds of 7.62 isn't light! Plus the gun, my M-4, and nine mags.
I'm currently in Baghdad. Can't get more specific than that though. ;)
Speaking of 240's, lets see if I can find a pic of my old one....
I think I may have already posted it a while back but what the heck..

That was my baby, after a sniper shot her. I was pulling security on an alley, when a "Crack!" went off from some bushes to my right. The round went through the laser, rail, and splattered against the gas tube and barrel. Better the gun than my head though!
Pieces of plastic and copper hit my face and hand, but luckily nothing real serious.
The impact of the round tweaked the frame just enough that the bolt wouldn't go all the way forward, so I didn't get a round off.
But a 203 and a SAW found the haj in the bushes.;)
