View Full Version : Disassembly of S&W 5906
Does anyone have the instructions to completely disassemble this family of pistol?
TIA:wavey:

Preferrably not. I would like to shoot it afterward.
It just needs mild gunsmithing that I can do myself, if taken apart. I can do it, I just prefer to not monkey around if possible since they are complex pistols.

Nope. Nice try, but field stripping is not what I need and the 59s are substantially different from the 5900's.
FWIW:
It's not that hard at all todo the top end if you study the slide assembly after the barrel is remove. I couldn't describe the procedures but I could easily walk you thru them. I would suggest getting a exploded diagram and study it.
The lower half has more complex parts and iirc one of the smith-wesson dot com forums member had a pdf in taking apart any 3rd smith-wesson semi-auto. It was applicable for (frame mount ) decockers and non models also.
Now may I ask why you want to attempt this feat ? Is something broke or you just curious as to how the guns fit together?
FWIW: I did my top end firing pin & springs, extractors and was going to do my 10mm popup ejector but gave up once I saw the exploded diagram and the instructions that was posted in the above mention forum website.
Removing the mag disconnect?

Like I said above, it needs some mild gunsmithing. IE: new springs and a freshening up (the pistol has a lot of rounds through it). I would rather do it myself, since I done it with many other firearms I own. I just don't want to dive in blindly, because I know how complex they are.
Also, I poked around in that forum and came up empty before I posted here.
Oh, before it's brought up, I do know I can send it off to S&W, but I don't pay other people to do things I can for myself.
