View Full Version : Romanian Mak .380 Question
I was looking at a Romanian Makarov today in .380, It looked to be very used but in good shooting condition for $150. Does that sound like a fair price and is there anything i should look out for?
If all else It would be a good project gun, and would go with my Romey G AK :)
Thanks in advance for any Input.
Gibbles,
As a point of information Makarov Pistols were only manufactured by four countries, Russia, East Germany, Bulgaria, and China. What you are looking at is a Romanian pistol that may look similar to a Makarov but is not. Most of these guns have horrible double action triggers and you may have difficulty getting spare parts.

Hmm, sounds like I should pass on it.
I can't find any info on it anywhere so far.
Gibbles,
If you are looking for a Makarov Pistol you will probably have to pay in the $250+ range. There was a time when you could get a Bulgarian for around $100 but those days are long gone.
Bill
Yeah, I figured as much.
I dropped buy a gun store and noticed they had the gun in the case and I saw the price tag and got me thinkin about getting a makarov/project gun. I can't even find info on what mags will work in it, sounds like a bad idea. Now if it was $50..
I'll hold off and buy a nice bulgy or russian mak later on.
Thanks, sounds like you saved me from a POS. :)

What you saw was a Romanian Carpati. They were based on the Walther PPK. They came in .32 and in .380.
They are NOT Makarovs in any sense of the word.
As with most small Eastern block military pistols, the trigger pull is hellashous and the kick is nasty. This can be overcome by dry firing, polishing and/or changing the trigger spring.
I do not know anything about their reliability or where one might get spare parts, but the Carpatis are interesting cheap little pistols, about in a class with the Polish P-64.
BTW, $150 is the max anyone should have to pay for one. They used to sell for around $100.
Cool thanks for the info, The gun was in rough shape outside and looks like it was shot allot. I figured I could remove a layer of metal on the slide and refinish and have a nice looking little pistol. My main concern is #1 spare mags #2 spare parts, I can make some parts tho. for $20 more another shop has a unissued polish version with holster, but I think I would be better off waiting and getting a real makarov.
Thanks again guys :)
