View Full Version : I'm official now...
I reserved my club number last week, while I was waiting for my accessories to come.
Here's my MarMag with a Knoxx SpecOps stock and a Surefire 918FA forend. I have not seen a 618FA before, but the 918FA is friggin' BRIGHT!

VERY nice weapon. But I'm just a poor man, so I have to rely on the lowly 870P.

I want an 870P next, but I am tempted by the MarMag XCS coming out this spring...

The one on the right in the photo came to me brand new for $355 plus shipping and FFL. I bought a Speed feed 1 stock set for it, but I just can't bring myself to lose that walnut stock set.
Almost all of the shotguns we had in the academy were 15-25 year old 870Ps with wood furniture and the high luster finish...they were in exquisite shape, especially considering their age. I would be really tempted in looking for an 870p just to get one with food furniture and a standard tube.

Prices seem to be pretty decent at auctionarms.com.
I have seen a few 870Ps come in on transports from other prisons in the state, and they do seem to hold up quite well, although one must consider the quality of the knuckleheads (for the most part) who wield them in this fine state. Somehow, we got stuck with Express models. They're not too pretty. Or reliable.

My Chief bought us Expresses, but it was because it was the only way we were going to get shotguns. Our last Chief convinced our city council that they were dangerous for use in town (slugs) and sold them. Of course, he failed to mention that he really just wanted money to spend on something we didn't need.
We got our expresses last year and it looks like they are going in the cars in the next couple of weeks. I am not impressed with the finish at all.

Two issues I have seen with Express models:
You already know about the rust issues. I used to soak down the finish of my Express riots with a good rust proofing oil once every three or four months, let the guns sit over night, then wipe off the excess with a clean rag. And even though the finish looked fine to the naked eye, that rag took a fair amount of rust off with the excess oil. Ironically, the worst guns for rust in our case are the ones that stay locked up in the armory.
The other is feed issues. If you don't rack the slide 'with authority', the action can hang up, and it takes a fight to free the slide again. Also, once in a while when I unload and inspect a SG before assuming a post, when I rack the slide, a round or two will come shooting out from the bottom, below the feed ramp.
I saw enough of Express rust buckets at work that I sold my two personal guns, and replaced them with those two 870Ps in the photo.
Hope your experience is better than mine.
