Wood Stock Refinish ?

I am refinishing a wood stock with Birchwood-Casey Tru Oil. I am not going for a superb finish, just to protect the wood. Is one coat suitable for a durable, no-gloss finish? According to the directions, it appears that additional coats are mostly for acquiring a more finished look.

You should keep applying it and removing it with 0000 steel wool until allof the pores are filled. Once the stock is smooth enough to your tastes, then quit applying it.
