Anybody got a hunting rifle chambered in 6.8 SPC yet. I've been thinking about getting a Remington Model 7 SS. I think it ought to be a fun little cartridge to reload for but all I ever read about are dang AR-15's chambered in it, and I don't want one of them.

Here is a thread on that cartridge from a while back.

There doesn't seem to be many hunting guns built around it.
It wasn't designed for hunting. Rather puny.

But, I think it would be interesting in a contender carbine, or Remington model 7 or Ruger carbine for a kid's gun.

I've seen a few Contender and Encore barrels for sale on Ebay and Greybeard Outdoors forum.

I would take a 243 win over the 6.8 and I don't much care for either one. I would look into a 260 if you want to go the short action route but prefer the 25.06, 6.5x55, 7-08 over the 6.8. Esox357.

I'm pretty sure a 6mm ( 243win ) and 6.8 would be about on the same par as far as level or performance, BUT the 243win is more advance for hunting and still outshines the 6.8mm

Using remingtons ultralock in both calibers

1> the 243win made more energy

2> has more velocitiy

3> drops less at 200/300 yards than the 6.8mm

4> has a proven record for hunting

5> has alot more guns chamber for it

NOw keep in mind the 6.8spc is a shorter cartridge when compared to the 243win which is based off a 308win case that's been neck down. Not sure if the 6.8spc was a neckup 5.56mm but it doesn't even come close in what you can load as far as powder to burn and able to match as far as the 243win goes. Granted the 6.8spc does have a 5grain heavier bullet on avg.

I'll stick with a 243win and leave the 6.8spc for the AR15 folks;)
