AMMUNITION FOR THE SELF-DEFENSE FIREARM
Opinion by Anonymous
Preface by Chuck Hawks, Managing Editor
10mm Auto
The 10mm is not living up to expectations. It was thought to be the ne plus ultra of pistol rounds when introduced in the late 1980's, but hasn't turned out to be superior to the better 9mm, .40 S&W or .45 ACP jacketed hollowpoints. This isn't to say that the 10mm Auto sucks - it is a fine stopper. It's just that we hoped for so much more.
Looks like Chuck never heard of DT ammo and must of been living in a cave for the last 10 years.

When loaded to full potential, it does things conventional automatic cartridges cannot. I own alot of sidearms, and the G20 does everything they can do, but it does at the highest level possible. It fits my hand like a glove, it holds 18rnds, and its ballistically superior. Why would I use anything else??

I can't stand Chuck Hawks.
I actually emailed him a link and said that I carry DT for woods carry and he gave me a cold thanks and that was it.

Who is this Chuck Hawk?
If he truly said "hasn't turned out to be superior to the better 9mm, .40 S&W or .45 ACP jacketed hollowpoints." then he must have a very narrow criteria.
I spent 16 years in research and some of that was in ballistics.
For the application, the 10mm is overall the most versatile cartridge introduced with the possible exception of the 22LR which is extremely versatile but represents a different application.
If he is basing his criteria on total sales as an indicator of "superior" then I would not want him making purchasing choices for any company I owned.
One can load the 10mm to any configuration that will equal or outperform the other standard carry cartridges with a wider range of applications.
This guy needs to go back to school.
my 2 cents

He want to the same school as Masad Aboob, Craig Boddington and other self-proclaimed experts....how do you get people to pay you to express your opinions anyway???

They say "Ignorance is bliss". I guess Chuck is a "blissful" guy.

Boddington makes the most sense of them.

Sounds like an article written in 1992. Wake up Chuck, or you will become irrelevant quickly.

A BIG +1 Get real Chuck!
What does he expect the 10mm to do/accomplish ??
Shoot a 5gal plastic bucket filled with water with a DT 135gr at 1600. Or a deer with a 210 or 230 gr. hardcast.
Gotta say,.......it's what I expected...... and I'm not a gunnerz guru. -------
He actully had another article about handgun for protection in the field and he said that if handloaded the Glock 20 was the only auto he would recomend,(he mentioned stars and stripes ammo, I think. So he has adjusted his view a little, I do not think he is a bad writter, I think he just is more of a magnum revolver fan.

Oh the longing for the days of the simple ballistic pendulum. The amount of energy dump was the end all be all of analysis.
The farther the pendulum swung the more powerful the round. Everyone is an expert if they have some letters after their name.
But then again, it is harder to sell products that are supporting your rag or organization. He is about self promotion, maybe he should run for public office. No need for facts, just good one liners and sound-bytes.

I think we've met Dave Difabios alter ego(Chuck Hawks). It would seem his motives are the same. Stir up a controversy and make a killing. Nothing new or interesting here.
