View Full Version : Sig Sights WAY Off

I might be barking up a tree but wondered if anyone had any ideas.
Ima Glock Armorer and not a Sig Armorer. That said, I'm the closest thing my office has to an armorer for our issued Sig 229R's in .40 SW.
My problem is this. I benched my duty weapon today at around 15 yards and discovered the sights are a bit off. Say 12" low and 6" right from 15 yards. I can fix the right drift.
Is there any adjustment I can make in the elevation to bring this piece closer to zero?
Thought it was me, but dropped to my g35 and was dead on bull at 15 yards.
Thanks!
Jak

I think I may have answered my own question. It appears the rear sights on the Sig 229's are a standard size; however the front sights are different based on caliber.
The 229 comes standard with a #6 front sight in .40 with a #8 rear. To correct the issue of shooting low, I might have to go with a #8 front sight. More resarch to follow.

If you notice the Sig front and rear sights have a number on them. Go to the Sig website and there you can find out which sight will give you the adjustment you need. CDNN had a set of front and rear sights of varying heights for sale some time ago.
8/8 and 6/8 are most common on the Sigs I have.

Even though SIG recommends a 6/8 sight set up for the 229 most SIG guys seem to think the 8/8 that is standard on other models is the way to go.
This is from the SIG board:
There are different height combinations available for the front and rear sights.
The sights are numbered according to their height.
You can change elevation by changing either the rear or front sight.
It's easier if you change the rear sight first.
Basically, remember this simple rule:
Numbers UP = Groups (POI) UP
Numbers DOWN = Groups (POI) DOWN
For both front AND rear sights.
Front sights: Each # change for the front sight [e.g. 0.005"] changes POI 1" at 25 yards.
Rear sights: Each # change for the rear sight [e.g. 0.01"] changes POI 2" at 25 yards.
Sight Options
........Front Sight..................................Rear Sight.................
Number........ Height...................... Number....... Height...........
05.............. 6.01 mm / .235".......... 05.............. 5.52 mm / .22"
06.............. 5.88 mm / .230".......... 06.............. 5.80 mm / .23"
07.............. 5.74 mm / .225".......... 07.............. 6.07 mm / .24"
08.............. 5.60 mm / .22"............ 08.............. 6.35 mm / .25"
09.............. 5.46 mm / .215".......... 09.............. 6.62 mm / .26"
....................................................... 10.............. 6.90 mm / .27"
Apparently the standard sights for a P226 in 9mm/.357 are 8 front/8 rear, .40/.45 are 6/8. Going by the above chart, the #6 front caused my POI to be 2" low at 25 yards, and the #6 rear caused it to be another 4" low for a total of 6" at 25 yds. I'm going to switch to #8fr/#8 rear as the factory recommends and that should fix it.
