Ok, so I'm getting the 10mm bug and I am feeling the need to satisfy it. I'm willing to spend up to $1000 and I want the best bang for my buck 10mm I can get. I've been looking around at various 10mm pistols and so far I am leaning towards the EAA Witness. I like steel pistols in DA/SA and it seems that the Witness is the only 10mm I've see that fits my wants/needs. I love the 1911s as well, but I really want my 10mm to be a DA/SA and as far as I know there are no DA/SA 1911s in 10mm on the market. I would like a single stacked magazine for a more ergonomic grip, but I would like the magazine to pack at least 10rds. Any advice would be much appreciated. :)
Also, used 10XX Smith.
Close on all your points.
I have a 10MM EAA Witness and it is a very accurate gun. It has 6" match barrel and adjustable sights. It feels great in my hands. Unfortunately, gun does run 100% reliably. In a pin shoot, I jammed on the first round (1 Pin off), then cleaned table 3 times, then jammed again. These were 200G handloads. I suspect that problem may be with mags. In any event, I still really like this gun. I plan to have feed ramp and breach face polished to see if this helps. I may buy a Glock in the future...only a 4.6" barrel but Ive heard they run well....I would get get a match Witness or Glock...Best...

Buy a Colt Double Eagle and be done with it. Here are a few for sale:

$899 Guns America (http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976777463.htm)

I wonder why the double eagle wasent more popular. Its a natural progression, design wise, from the 1911.Its rather intresting looking and updated in a tastful factory colt mannor. Are they durable? Are they reliable? What years were they made and how many? I want one to accompany my Delta Elite.

First choice (of mine) is the Star Megastar but it uses a double-stack mag.
Second choice would definately be a S&W 10xx
Third would be the Witness
Fourth would be the Colt Double Eagle
I've tried almost every 10mm made, and still own many of them and it is very hard to find fault with most of the choices, they just fill different needs...
For just a bit more there is the Kimber Eclipse Custom II. I don't have any experience with it personally but it seems closer to the 1911 style you'd like to have. I have a Glock 29 for daily carry that I couldn't be happier with.

Have both a Smith 1006 and EAA Witness with 'wonderfinish" like i saw a post or two on here sating CANT go wrong with the Smith.Yet i like the Witness for the cocked and locked option (ala 1911)..
Both are trouble free thus. Also a 10mm newbie only a few months now.
Ammo is what makes this catridge.one word DT.

Abandon your "requirement" for a SA/DA and all steel option and go with the "King of Kings": the Glock G20. It is a superior combat firearm to virtually any other 10mm that is available. (And just for the record, I like a lot of brands other than Glock!)
Based on your needs, the EAA Witness is the best bang for your buck. The S&W is more money and probably more durable in the longhaul.

I had a Para-Ordnanace P-16 Limited in SS Converted to 10MM. I use a 22# recoil spring, an EGW flat bottom firing pin stop. a 23# strut spring. It works every time if you keep the OAL of the cartridge to 1.250. This will fit all your requirements.
