View Full Version : Model 29 ...My first 10mm
After reading this forum and all the info about this cartridge I finally bought a model 29. Thanks for all the great info and it was the comparisons to my model 30 that really influenced my decision.
I really enjoy my 30 in .45acp but now am really having a blast with this little powerhouse. My very first impression was that it is even more accurate than the 30. I found the 29 was giving me tighter groups right outta the box.
Also I was mildly disappointed with my first 2 boxes of (nameless) 10mm ammo. My little model 27 in .40s&w seemed to have more snap than these 10mm weak loads.
Then I loaded up some 135gr. Double Taps and man I haven't had that much fun shooting in a long time. The little gun was spitting fire and the shockwave was unbelievable. Reminds me of short barreled .308 rifles.
I bought this gun for woods protection and after some testing I hope it will replace my backup (Magnum) out on hog hunts. What a great little gun and I am really impressed with this cartridge.
Without this forum and each of you that have contributed I would have have never considered this pistol and ANOTHER cartridge to stock. Thanks to all for their input into this forum. ...kp
Outstanding choice!!!
P.S. - Get yourself some Pearce grip extenders for that G29. Least expensive way to order a few is to order from someone on eBay with a good price and low shipping and ask if they'll combine shipping if you pick up 2 or 3.
Here's a good one I found: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160059421892
She's pretty much good with that one add-on. Night sights are always nice, though. I like and have XS Big Dot tritiums on mine. Pricey ($120), but it's what my eyes liked most.

Check out some of the hot 200 grain loads for woods carry. I carry the Cor Bon Penetrator in my Glock 29.
Thanks for the link to the Pearce mag extensions, they didn't seem too needed until I got into those Double Tap boxes. Then the gun really rolled back and I would like to get that last finger to help out a bit.
Regarding the 200gr. CorBon ammo and I'm assuming the comprable 200gr. Double Tap rounds. I thought you were not supposed to shot lead thru the poly rifled glock barrels?
Does this mean I need to get another barrel for these rounds?
Oh and I forgot to thank whoever had the link for the $40 dollar Sportsman Guide Model 29 .40cal conversion barrels. Bought one and it works okay except when my wife fires it, it fails to cycle properly. It fires the .40's fine for me but feels kinda soft and weak. ...kp
I would recommend the 200 grain for woods carry as well. Great penatration and plenty of velocity from the G29 still.

The Cor Bon 200 grain load is a thick jacketed FMJ load. Double Tap and Buffalo Bore also sell hot 200 grain FMJ loads in the 10mm.
Thanks for the clarification on the ammo. I need to do more thorough research on 10mm ammo. I just briefly browsed the Double Tap web site and assumed that the 200gr. was only offered in the hard cast. Now looking back I found the 200FMJ and also saw that I missed the DT Nov. sale. Lots to learn. ...kp
Welcome and congrats!! THese fools here sold me on the G20(and of course now I want the G29). Such a great round. The DT loads(beartooths and WFNGC) are gas checked and Mike has commented several times that leading is not a problem.
I don't have any experience w/ Corbon in 10mm, but I do have experience with DT with 10mm and 357Sig and its just a no brainer. I'm sure the other guys make fine ammo, but I just don'y think you can beat the performance AND customer service you get from Mike at DT. Just my $.02.
The main thing is, you have a 10mm now.

Congratulations on your new 29! I believe that you will really enjoy it.
Also, FWIW...I always seemed to shoot more accurately with my 29 than I could with the 20.
Anyone else shoot better with their 29? Just curious?

Not sure about that, however, I think I've noticed that the G29 makes me a better shooter with other models and handguns.
Why?
Because the G29, in a sense, is unforgiving. You've got a barrel less than 4" long, and the 10mm doubletap ammo coming out of that thing is a CANNON. You're not shooting a 6" barreled 9mm out of a steel gun. So, it forces you to get over any flinching problems you may have, and it makes you work for that accuracy. Grip, sight picture, trigger squeeze, etc. And it's there, you just need to fine tune it, and make it come out and through the firearm. Because the firearm itself is accurate. It will make you a better shooter. At least it did for me.
I dont have that much time on my new toy but as I said in the original post I really believe the 29 holds a tighter group than my Model 30 and I have shot thousands of rounds of .45. I had thought the 30 more accurate than either the 23 or 27 too.
The first mag I fired thru my 29 held a group the size of my fist at 7 yards. It shoots and feels very similar to the 30 so it was easy to make the transition and until I opened up the REAL 10mm ammo it it seemed like business as usual.
I am really gonna like this gun with the wide range of ammo it will be a real versatile tool. ...kp
Congrats on your G29. :)
The G29's versatility is, in a sense, a function of the versatility of the 10mm AUTO itself.
As others have noted, the 10mm has a huge power range to play with as far as factory ammo goes. There are even more "power" variables in play if you reload for this cartridge. (Check out GT's 10mm Reloading Forum).
On the other hand, the G29, qua Glock, has a bit of versatility going for it too. With just a barrel swap you can (theoretically) shoot .40S&W, .357Sig and 9x25 Dillion.
All you need are the aftermarket barrels. Once you get the extra tubes, the G29's stock 10mm mags and recoil assembly should work fine with these cartridges.
In my case, a spare .40S&W barrel is all I need. Even then, most of my shooting will still be with real-deal 10mm ammo. But that's me.

 Welcome to the 10mm gang!! My best advice is to try all the Double Tap offerings. It is just a blast, plain and simple! I keep the 135's around for the 29 for CCW. For camping I'll usually have the 20 on me with the 200's. But they are all fun to shoot!!
Enjoy and stay safe!
