Forgive me as this is kind of a double post, but I thought it would be better to try to explain my question here in the gunsmithing section.
I recently purchased a used Glock and discovered there there was quite a bit of gunk in the firing pin channel, in and around the extractor and the extractor depressor plunger channel. My plan is to disassemble the slide, remove the firing pin channel liner and then use Tetra® Gun Action BlasterTM Degreaser in order to completely clean out the firing pin channel, extractor depressor plunger channel and extractor slot.
As the Action Blaster should completely remove any oil from these areas, would it be advisable to very lightly coat the firing pin channel and extractor depressor plunger channel before reassembly in order to prevent rust from occuring?

People usually freak out when you mention lube/firing pin channel in the same sentence. I think it's unfounded, provided you use the absolute minimum. I spray mine out with gun scrubber, then go back with a patch sprayed with rem-oil teflon lube. I then go back with dry patches and get all excess out.
Why? because the gun scrubber leaves the metal very dry. I put just enough lube to "darken" the metal. I've done this since 1989, and have never had any ill-effects from this practice. The key is to get all excess lube out of there.
Keep in mind I never detail strip my lower, and detail strip my upper every 250rds or so.

Thank you, Steve. I was planning on using a very, very small amount of Rem-oil.
When you detail strip your slide, do you remove the channel liner?
If you do remove the channel liner, are you able to reuse it?
The only way I know how to remove the channel liner is with a 5/16" lag bolt. This method destroys the channel liner.

No need to remove the channel liner.
Just spray disc brake cleaner (away from your face ;) ) in the hole and it will clear any and all debris.
Btw my channel is dry.

There is no need to lube anything in the FP channel.

No, once removed, the liner has to be replaced. Matt (above) is correct, there is no need (nor is it recommended) to do this.
Steve,
You're wrong. The liner can be removed and replaced without damage. Certain graphite dry lubes will improve the trigger as well.

A Glock is a self cleaning gun. The more oil you put on the gun well defeat the purpose of the self cleaning, or put oil were it is not suppose to be. There is a reason why Glock well tell you to only oil certain parts of the gun, They know what works and what does not. any oil in the FP channel does not work. Clean a mirror and put baby powder on it, then blow it off. Clean it off agian and put oil on the mirror that add the baby powder now try and blow it off. Then try and wipe it off, that is the reason you do not put oil were it does not belong.

Well, pass on your secret. I've never been able to remove one without destroying it...

I believe the reason the Glock fp channel has a plastic liner, is to promote lubricity WITHOUT lube.

There is really no need to remove the firing pin liner. If it falls out that's one thing. I would leave it be and spray the stuff in there to clean it out.
If the liner comes out, remebmer that the beveled edge goes back in first.

Why is everyone so afraid of taking the firing oin and liner out? Its no big deal and it comes out EASY. I clean mine often beacuse it gets dirty. You will never know unless you take it out...

Because there is no need to take it out for cleaning. Yes there are some that come out easy and some that don't, Why risk the chance of screw up the liner when you don't need too. Gun Scruber and Qtip that are on a wood stick and can air or a air compressor is all you need. And then you don't really need the can air or air compressor.

Exactly my thoughts, I really don't understand why people insist on putting oil where Glock Inc says to not lube that area. I mean if anyone knows where to lube it would be the company who makes the firearm! Also for cleaning the firing pin channel i use Q-Tips and Hoppes Elite Cleaner, Works flawlessly!
