View Full Version : G21 10 round mag question

This may be a silly question to some, but here goes.
I purchased a 2nd gen. G21 a while ago and it came
with a couple of 10 round mags. I have loaded the
mags fully and when I try to load them into the gun
with the slide in full battery, it is very difficult.
I have a couple of full cap. (13 Rounders) that I do
not experience this with.
Why should this be a concern, it really isn't. I am just
curious to hear why this is happening. If I only load
9 rounds into the 10 round mag and try to load into the
gun, again with the slide in full battery, it is not so
difficult.
Thanks in advance for any answers,
Arc Angel

:) It's happening because the 10 round, 'Klintonista' magazines were rigidly manufactured to hold exactly 10 rounds. My solution? Buy Wolff Gunsprings, part #75373, +10%, magazine springs. They're thinner than the factory; there's more room inside the magazine; and you'll be able to stuff them more easily.
If you don't want to do this, either, load with the slide back or use only 9 rounds at a time. All my 10 rounders are strictly range magazines, anyway; so who cares! ;)
In addition to Arc's comments, here are some other suggestions: 1)fully load up the 10 rounders and let 'em sit for about a month, which allows the spring to adjust to the full load, and take a "set," subsequently they'll be easier to load (both regarding loading the magazine itself, and then inserting the loaded magazine into the gun; 2)load the fully loaded magazine from slidelock (with the slide fully retracted to the rear and held open by the slidelock/slide release), and then chamber by releasing the slide,(as Arc suggested) or finally, 3) give up the good fight and just go with the "normal capacity" 13 round magazines-they're available and inexpensive. I just use my 10 rounders for practice and steel plate matches (where the maximum magazine loading is constrained to 6 rounds).

:) OK, this thread just happened to hit at exactly the same time I purchased new springs for all 4 of my 10 round G-21 magazines. Well, after 2 weeks of extensive field testing, I'm going to say that the above comment is the perfect solution:
Use 13 round magazines and buy them, now, while you still can! ;)
