Apparently, Glock added the Auto after 10mm at some point. Maybe the generation change? What year was the Auto added?

Good trivia question.

Similarly, wasn't "357SIG" truncated, and "40SW"?

My 2nd gen G22 (June 95) says ".40SW".

My 2nd gen G20 (Oct 95) says "10mmAuto".

Yes! They stopped putting the SW after 40 several years ago. What is the new 357sig stamp? 357 or 357 Auto?

The 6" KKM barrel reads 10mm and the G20 slide reads 10mm auto, manufactured 3/2005.

The only reason they dont write .357sig or .40sw on their firearms is because they would basically be advertising other firearms manufacturers on their own weapons, a serious no go.

Yup. Makes me wonder why they did it to begin with.

Probably some crazy notion like accurately marking the caliber on the guns they make so that morons won't load the wrong ammo into it, blow their fool heads off and then and sue them for millions and win in a court presided over by a liberal advocate who calls himself a judge.

Right, but then why would they stop?

Probably for the reason stated above, that they didn't want to advertise someone else's brand name. Logic doesn't always win, sometimes the marketing department does.

What is your serial number alpha prefix, like "ABC"? I'll note it in the GSN thread.

GLOCK took the SW off the guns right after that whole mess with Smith infringing on their design that went to court. I think it was the Sigma series that GLOCK was pissed about. Anyway, after the lawsuit, "SW" was no longer on the slides.

Revolvers list the caliber on the barrel, pistols list the caliber on the chamber. Those are required permanent markings for manufacturers. All other markings are up to the maker.

To summerize where we are. The latest "10mm" only we have is:

UT - G-20 - April 1991 - 2nd Gen. - marked "10mm" only.

and

AHT - G-20 - March 1993 - - marked "10mm Auto"

is the earliest "10mm Auto". So sometime between these two GLOCK switched the stamping.

My G20 was born in june of 1991. Dont know why Glock deemed it necessary to add "auto" to the rollmark though?
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f7/masterofg3/100_0545.jpg
Edited to add: It was actually manufactured in june of 1996(thanks for the correction DM).

Been off of work for awhile with a collapsed disc and things got very "tight" for awhile, but I "stuck to my guns", heh, heh. Take care DM. Here's another nice shot of her with a Stormlake 6 inch.
