Got a new shotgun.

Just picked up a Mossberg 590 parkerized with heat shield. It was an early Christmas present from my wife. (Actually, I told her that I was going to buy a shotgun and she could consider it a present from her.)

I had debated for a couple of months between this one and an 870. I ended up going with this one mainly because I liked the location of the controls better.

I immediately took it to the range and function checked it with a mag full of bird shot, a few 00 buck and a few slugs. (Won't make a habit of shooting the slugs though):rollingeyes:

I installed a fiber optic front sight and a cheap sling to get me by until I figure out what I want for long term.

Looking for idea's for a light with remote switch. I am thinking of this one LINK (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=108686)
or similar. Does anyone have one of these? Or suggestions?

I would seriously consider the Surefire forend if you want a light. They're a little steep ($250 direct from Surefire, probably cheaper on ebay or elsewhere), but you can not beat how well they function.

I went with the 18.5" version with ghostring sights. its been great. devastatingly accurate with slugs, which is made easier with a knoxx compstock.

Is it not a good idea to fire slugs out of the 590? Obviously it must be OK to do so since your not dead or anything but why would you avoid it? Wear on barrel? Inaccuracy? The need to do it more?

I think he just meant that it's pretty rough on the shoulder. :supergrin:
