View Full Version : Police Duty Gear ... Idpa?
I wanted to ask the pros if my duty gear is legal for IDPA or USPSA. I carry a stock Glock 31 in a Level 2 duty holster, snap mag holders, and (3) 15-round magazines.
I would like to enter my first IDPA or USPSA competition in January somewhere in SoCal and I want to try to get myself in these competitions at least once a month. Any info. about which classes are legal with my gear and any matches in January in the SoCal area is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Check us out

We shoot reactive steel matches on the first, third and fifth sundays every month out in Norco. I personally find it much more fun than IPSC/USPSA.
If you want further information you can PM or e-mail me from GlockTalk. I would be happy to meet you and introduce you around. I actually me up with the SSA here on GT.

Edited to add: Your duty gear will be fine for us.
Cool! I've done some range time at Prado during my Academy in 2001. I work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday graveyard, but I'm off at 0630 on Saturday morning. I'll be there on the first Saturday of January. I have to be back at work at 6pm ... how long can I expect the matches to last at Prado?
Actually, make that the 3rd Saturday. I switch to swingshift then and I'll be getting off at 0130 so I can take a nap before the match ... but I'll have to be back at work at 1300. Cool! I'm getting excited already. I always thought some competitions could get me to practice more. I hope I like it!
Hey New! I've been to Raahauges, too. I'll give you a hollar ... I want to get to one of your matches in January, too. It looks like fun ... plus ammo is a tax write off!
No matter where you shoot, it's going to be tough to finish before 1pm... Both Norco and Prado usually have large crowds. There are matches on Sundays, notably Palm Springs, and IPSC on the 3rd Sunday at Prado. I don't recommend starting with any steel match. IDPA is nice as it has a kinda of LEO class using full duty gear. There is no point in shooting a duty rig in USPSA, unless you are practicing for the Police/Fire games later on.
I didn't think about how crowded it might be. It sounds like I'm S.O.L. working Friday, Saturday, and Sunday swings! Bummer!

Ginny,
If you show up early at Prado Jimmy (Range Master) or Van should be able to accomodate your schedule so you can get to work on time.
9x45 congrats for placing 7th overall (out of 57) at last weeks match.

You can I thought it would be a good idea (training value) but then I started getting competative and I like the speed edge a blade tech holster gives me.

FWIW Phil Strader won the Va. State IDPA Championships with a duty rig........But, he's Phil Strader ;)
Ryu, not bad considering it's the only IDPA match I have shot since the 05 CA State, (and only the 3 pistol match this year) using a carry gun with full house ammo and a real life concealment garment (not photog vest). This work thing is hurting my match schedule.
Remember to bring the cigars next time:) See you at Norco.
Allmost forgot, Super Senior (55) to boot.

7th overall? By 9x45? Are you talking about the guy who buy's his shirts from the Palm Springs Gay Pride clothing store?
He must have cheated........
Bob, It's only because you and Q weren't there... So what I did was all the stuff you allways tell me to do (but usually don't listen to)
It’s true I get Hawaiian shirts in Palm Springs, however, they are from the Angel View Crippled Children's Foundation, Inc. Thrift Marts & Prestige Boutiques.

Everyone knows they carry the best shirts at a fraction of the original price, Reyn Spooner, Cooke Street, Tori Richards, Blue Water, Paradise Found, Kahala…
What size do you wear?
