View Full Version : Tac-Star Side Saddle modification?
Crap! I just got the six shell side saddle for my 870 Express and the instructions say that you have to modify the fore end so that the saddle will fit. I wish that the webpage I ordered it from had said so; I would have gotten the 4 shell saddle instead.
Anyone have any suggestions for modifications? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My brother had a similar issue with is Mos 500 (see Forum Post (http://glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=517272)). He replaced the standard forend with a "Pachmayr forend"
An Example (Googled - Pachmayr forend 870)
Pachmayr Vindicator F-870R Remington 870

I think the issue has to do with the "overhang" of the stock forends on the Mos and Remmingtons.

If the fore-end overlaps the action when drawn back, it will hit the side-saddle. You can just notch the rear left corner of your existing fore-end using a table-saw (run the fore-end through standing on end), in two passes, cutting out only the small rectangle that would otherwise interfere with the side-saddle. Then take a file and break the sharp corners of the cut.
Or, replace it with one that won't overlap the action. Take a look at these two:

The second one is the type I really like for pump guns, regardless of using a side-saddle or not -- a very simple corncob fore-grip that is small and provides a really good handgrip. (I use it without the goofy rail and vertical grip they have recently added to it. Geeez-- does EVERYTHING in the gun world have to be covered with MIL STD 1913 interfaces these days?!)
