Fully loaded mag = no go

I'm hoping someone here can possibly help me!

I recently picked up a LNIB P99...It's an SA model, but before they were designated as such. (Ser #059XXX)

Unfortunately, it only came with one 10 rd. mag...but that's another story.

The gun is supposed to be "+1" with whatever capacity the magazine. However, when I shuck one round into battery, then reload the magazine to full capacity, I cannot insert the fully loaded mag far enough into the mag. well to get it to latch when the slide is closed.

A fully loaded magazine will latch into place with the slide open.

This happens only when the mag is full on both the 10 rd. that it came with and the new 15 rd. that I bought.

Any ideas? Hints?

It is a snug fit. I have to press mine in with a sharp movement. Try inserting the mag until you feel resistance and hit the bottom of the magazine with you fist balled up. Once the magazine springs are broken in it will get a little easier.

So it won't hurt the mag. release to 'force' the mag. in?

Not unless there is something wrong with the pistol.

Push on the bottom of the magazine until you hear a click(it may take considerable force until everything is broken in). The only way that anything could get damaged is from overinsertion. The magazine floorplate and the slide itself will prevent that from happening.

FYI:

In case you have not figured it out all ready. What is happening is that the top round in the magazine is making contact with the bottom of the slide. the slide is pressing the cartridge down into the magazine. When the magazine are new they are extremly stiff. Also check to make sure you do not have one too many rounds in the magazine.

Ok... Now that I know it's just a mag. spring issue, I firmly inserted a fully loaded mag into the mag well and snapped it into place.

I have two 15rd (Thanks, Sportsman's Warehouse!) and 1 10 rd mag. I should probably rotate them in the gun so it'll help loosen the others.
