View Full Version : Re-Barrel Questions

Thinking of replacing factory barrel with either a Jarvis or Bar-Sto. It will either be my G23 or G30. Leaning toward the G30 since I love the gun and the .45 ACP round and Im already set up for reloading the .45 ACP. In either case I wanna shoot a lot for cheap, and that means lead. The price of copper seems to be higher every time I order a new 1000.
Questions:
1. Are the Jarvis and Bar-Sto (really) "Drop In" ?
2. On the Bar-Sto site they state that they will custom fit the barrel to the slide. Would the expense be worth it? Sounds like they are saying their barrels (will) "Drop In" without custom fitting, (but) will ...."Drop In Better" ...with their fitting.
3. My G30 is already super accurate. Should I expect to see a significant improvement in accuracy with either of these custom barrels?
4. Which do you prefer to reload for using lead ? The .45ACP or the .40 S&W ?
Thanks!
Dan
may or not get better accuracy [mostly should]
easier to get accurate 45 lead loads

I also looked at Bar Sto as I have them in my 1911's...I am replacing the barrel in my 23 as I am geting back into reloading. After careful consideration of several different barrels, I ordered a LWD replacement. I thought for the pricepoint I would give it a try. When I recieve the barrel I'm going to the range and test it compared to the stock barrel for accuracy. The LWD are true drop in barrels, The Bar Sto is semi drop in it will require fitting, and there is quite a bit of wait time on getting one unless GCR still has some in stock. I can honestly say I think Bar Sto is over kill for a Glock, and it's intended design. There seem to be alot of good barrels out there, KKM, LWD, Bar Sto, etc etc. Just depends on how much you want to spend. I really like LWD and JR and Dan are great to deal with. I will post some side by side pictures or the new barrel, and target with the stock barrel and LWD barrel when I conduct my test. I will be using a rest on my pistol, off hand shooting, and will use the same lot number of ammo. Should be a pretty good test of each barrel. More to follow.

Can you hold consistent 3" groups or less off-hand @ 25yds? (I know I can't) If the answer is no, don't bother with an aftermarket barrel. In other words, if you can't out-shoot the stock Glock barrel, why buy something else?

If I get more accuracy this would just be icing on the cake. No I can't shoot 3" groups @ 25 yds off hand.....but I sure can off a sand bag. If there is indeed an accuracy improvment, I'll be able to see it. Some may boo hoo shooting off the sand bag but as for me it's very enjoyable trying to shoot the best group possible. Different strokes fer different folks, I guess.

Have looked into both Jarvis & Bar-Sto. Bar-Sto's "Drop-In's" are supposed to do just that, if they don't you can try the minimal fitting it should need or send it in and have them do it for a nominal fee of $15.00.

Jarvis "Drop-in's" are supposed to do the same. They'd probably exchange or fit it for free, from talking with them.
The $45.00 charge only refers to their "fitted" bbl's. not "drop-in" style bbl's.
FWIW, the KKM in the 34 I have, has made a significant improvemnt in the guns accuracy/grouping at 25 & 50 meters during timed offhand drills, using both Zero and Montana Gold bullets in handloads that it likes.
