Had a great time last weekend with my son and his friend. I was shooting my 21 while they shot their 1911s. My son has my old colt Model 70 while his friend has a new Springfield GI. I must say I was impressed with the Springfield. The only thing was those sights. My question has to do with old eyes. I am 55 and I had a real hard time finding the Springfield sights. I also have factory sights on my Glock and I have to move my head around until I get them in focus with my bi-focals. I was wondering if any of you guys with older eyes find some after market sights better for your eyes. By the way I love those 1911's but just ask the kids who out shot them. Gotta love that 21.

If you want a combat sight, go with Big Dots.

Big Dot if you do a lot of fast, close-in, shooting work. Meprolight if you want a little more precise shot placement. Either brand will suit your older eyes just fine.
(I'm 63 and Mepro's do well for me!) ;)

Can't seem to hit that little red dot, though!

I'm only 35 , but my Lt. at work has problems with far-sightedness. He didn't care for the Big Dot sights I used to have on a 1911. He said it looked like a big white blur.
I think your solution may not be with new sights, but with new glasses. I have heard that you can have "reverse" bifocals made where the near-sighted portion of the lens is near the top so when you tilt your head down to look at your sights you are looking through that part.
Maybe ask about it in the "General Glocking" part.

I have Big Dot on my 17. For my 21, I am trying something different. Using the steel Glock white dot tritium night sight on the front and the steel Glock white outline on the rear.
I like the Glock stock sight picture and the Big Dot picture.
Big dots are excellent for me. If I don't like the 21 setup, I will go to Big Dots with that as well.
Incidentally, on the big dot setup, I order the non-tritium white stripe rear sight. Love it. You have to call XS to order that way.

I'm on the door step of 58 and if my arms were five feet long I'd do fine.
I have found the Hi Viz fiber optic in green works pretty well for me on IDPA. I have the small size on my G19, G21 and G35, but the large size in my G22. Once I cut the rear sight out just to give more light on ths sides, I think I like the big size best under 20 yds. It is kinda big for long or fine shooting but most of the IDPA targets are under 15 yds anyway. It is a cheap way to go and they are easy to install.

Never used'm but i've heard a lot of guys like the big dots that have trouble with the standard sights. My dad was having problems seeing his, then he checked out the heinie straight 8's i had on mine.
.
A few weeks later he his GLOCK was wearing a set. I tried these on a 21 i picked up and loved'm to the point that all my new GLOCK's get a set. Very clear, clean sight picture similar to a 1911 target sight.
