View Full Version : Mag release question
I'm piecing a second G36 together, and will need a mag release. Are they model specific or the same for all pistols? OMB has them cheap, but I want to get the correct part.
To add, sent my G36 in for the factory recall frame replacement and they sent the old, perfectly good frame back with the reassembled pistol. Got me thinking about a build, found a G36 complete upper with most of the frame parts on ebay for $226, so It will be around $235 total for a complete pistol.
Works for me ;)

Hey, NoGo, take a walk over to glockparts.com. They are showing two catches for the 36, one of which is extended. The catches don't look like they're "one size fits all". OMB definitely has good prices, but on a small order, shipping may negate that. Glockparts.com will ship it to you for about 2 bucks or less. Check it out.

Glock basically has two mag catches. One for the large frames such as the 20 and 21 and then for the smaller frame guns. You can use the larger one in the smaller frames and end up with an extended release. So you should be able to use either in the 36 with the bigger one sticking out a little.

The G36 has its own mag release: "G1739 is stock for the G36" - Glockmeister sells it.

:agree: Oops, i stand corrected.
Thanks to all. I looked it up on the Glock Armorer's PDF and saw the unique PN. As soon as I get the upper and parts in for inventory, I'll drop the order.
I wonder if Glock returns all frames when doing the frame replacement thing.

Interesting concept....they gave you a gun !
What was the reason for the frame recall anyhow ? And what frame #'s are affected ?

Call Glock Tech. Services with your serial number prefix to find out if yours is included. Make sure you're talking to someone that is actually a Technician.
The first time I called, the person I spoke with seemed unfamiliar with looking up prefixes and told me that there were no updates or recalls. When I saw my prefix listed on another website discussing G36 malfunctions, I called again. this time I was put in touch with a knowledgable Tech that described the potential frame rail problems, Glock's "Replacement program" and ordered a replacement frame from Austria. He called me back 2 weeks later when it arrived. Sent it in and got it back 15 days later.

I'll give them a yell, but I haven't had any problems with mine, except the usual loose screw behind the rear sight !
