View Full Version : 10mm LS shooting WAY high

Went to the range the other day and tried the 10mm LS at 100 yd. With the rear sight all the way down it was still 16" high when shooting DT 210 gr (I think) Bear Tooth rounds. Could something be put together incorrectly? Did not shoot high using Rem 180 gr at 50' in the past. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Two ideas, for your consideration:
1) Heavier bullets have more barrel time which gives the gun more time to recoil and point skyward.
2) You may be getting some slightly out of battery firings, which leads to high launches. Check for complete lockup next time you test fire.

+1 on trying to use a lighter bullet. The heavier bullets do spend more time in the barrel, and you are shooting at 100 yards which is a very long shot with a semi-automatic pistol. At that range any mistake or anomally will be magnified.

Um...wow. Are you dead on at 25 yds? Also, if you're using the black on black BoMars that come on the long slide then it would be easy to 'accidentally" let the front sight raise a LITTLE bit too high .... remember to focus on the FRONT SIGHT when firing for accuracy (or any other way, for that matter)
Just a tip, let us know what happens.

Thanks Steve: I'm pretty sure you have hit this right on the head. All of the previous shooting had been at 50' indoor and 25 yds outdoor. I noticed it was slightly high at 25 yds, but still within adjustment. Will order new sight and keep you posted after arrival. With the weather changing, it might be awhile before range time is available on the 100 yd course. Thanks again.

The Bo-Mar front sight is 0.270" high and even with the rear sight all the way down, your G20L will still shoot high......
These taller sights give you the room to adjust the rear sight correctly. They are also much more precise so you'll find that your aim is much better at 100yd and over. BTW, I've got the 019-005 mounted on mine and this is what it will look like mounted on yours. Problem solved!

Here's another thing to consider. Where did you get your longslide setup. It seems to me that the FRONT sight that comes on the LS's sold by LONE WOLF are DIFFERENT than the front sight on the LS's sold by BarSto. I purchased mine from Barsto and my sight works fine... in fact, I can set mine to shoot a little low if I need to. Most of the people who have longslides got them from LoneWolf so YMMV.

I've considered it a number of times, Steve. Christmas is coming up and .... :D
(btw did you do the installation yourself or have a smith do it?)

Hi there, all of you people that make my life so much easier (and more fun too). Went to my local gun store today and he had the sight in stock!! 019-009 It comes with the required nut driver and was a snap to install. It took him about 3 minutes. I'd say that home installation would be entirely within reason, but he insisted and is a Glock Armorer, so what the hay. Anyway its on there, looks great and I will shoot it in the next few days to get it on target.
Thanks to Steve and all the rest of you wonderfull GT people that always seem to have the right solutions to my quandries. May your lives be blessed with peace, health and fortune.
David
BTW Steve, great picture of my guns Daddy.

Yep, sight came with a tool and Locktite. 5 minutes and it was done.
VERY nice. I think I'll have to get myself that sight... Do you know if one is able to purchase different color fibers to replace the reb fiber with?
Thanks

NickE:
They seem to have thought of everything, those are in the package also. I'm posting from my sis's place, so I can't check available colors now, but I recall a spare red and a yellow/green.

Btw, I went ahead and ordered myself a Dawson FO front sight this morning. Sounds like it will make my G20L Barsto Hunter just that much better!
