View Full Version : yet another used glock 17 question
i just bought a used glock and the serial number on the barrel and the receiver match and is the standard six digit serial number but the slide serial number starts with s and followed by four numbers. any ideas as to why? and help or ideas are appriciated thanks mike
answer to my own question:
Why does my frame/slide/barrel have a G#### / S#### / L#### serial number?
Replacement frames slides and barrels have special serial numbers. The serial number consists of a single letter followed by 4 digits:
G#### for replacement frames
S#### for replacement slides
L#### for replacement barrels

1) Only the receiver s/n counts as the s/n of the firearm.
2) What would be interesting to know is why was the slide replaced. A quick call to Glock might reveal the answer.
One reason for new slide, old one bust! The slide is weakest at the ejection port, just a thin strip of metal, but normally will last for ever.
Hot reloads, crack's the slide, right through that thin portion, first clue, your group shifts left, 6" at 7 yards!
No big deal, just shoot it.
