I have a RRA 16" midlength that I'd like to use for coyote hunting. Right now I have an EOTech and BUIS on it, but I'm thinking I should get a scope for it (max. shot would probably be about 250-275 yds). What scope can you guys recommend that won't break the bank (I'm figuring about $250 is as much as I can spend).
As for ammo, I have a bunch of Guat surplus M193, as well as some Black Hills 68gr. I'm leaning towards the Black Hills for more long-distance punch. Your thoughts?
Any other things I might need?
Nothing too fancy for coyote hunting for me. I have a Bushmaster HBAR 16" with a 3x9 Wiliams twilight scope on an A3. I use Remington 55gr psp handloads that'll do an inch group at 100 yds. I use my packpack for rest.
My hunting partner uses a Colt target match carbine with 4x12 Leupold and some brand of tripod for a rest using some of his own very accurate handloads.
We just started hunting coyotes a couple of years ago, he has one, I'm still looking for my first.

Think low power
Simmons Whitetail expedition 1.5-6
Leopold 2.5 EER (scout scope) on the forward rail if your AR is set up that way.
To be honest though, I would use that Eotech
Ammo wise, Nosler balistic tips or Hornady V max

Burris 3-9x Fullfield II with Ballistic Plex reticle. About $169 by itself, or $199 bundled with a nice little 20x spotting scope. At low power, you can take shots as close as you know your POI (scoped ARs shoot REALLY low at close range - check zero before using). At longer distances, crank it up to 9x and use the multiple crosshair reticle to hold and shoot; takes a lot of the guesswork/estimation out of how far to hold over. If you know the distance and have checked your zero on the 2nd and 3rd crosshairs, any 'yote out to 300 is in DEEP doo-doo if you have a good solid position.

Thanks for the input, guys. I just found out that in PA you cannot hunt with a semi-auto rifle.:brickwall: Guess I'll have to buy another rifle!

what kind of distance are you talking about?
Varmint hunting and ARs would allow me to buy a cheaper scope. Say around $150.
Two reasons, one if I miss a shot or have to quit hunting varmints because of gear issues, I am likely not to cry (unless it was a bobcat). Not like droping $1500 on an Elk hunt.
Second, its an AR shooting .223 which has a pretty soft recoil pulse so its pretty easy on scopes.
