Have had my DE 50AE for about 6 months and I love it. Hard to get ammo these days. I like the Sampson ammo and does any one know other good practice loads that I can order online?
Thanks!

Sorry, as far as I know there's no inexpensive practice type ammo out there. I load for mine. It's the only way to shoot a lot with these things without robbing the house money lol.

The last place I found reasonably priced 50ae ammo from was Outdoor Marksman, but that was a while ago.
....that the .50AE ammo will become very hard to find in the very near future. My DE is a .44 but,if I had the .50 I would very quickly set up to reload that caliber.
Either that or look around for the best deal on loaded ammo.....THEN.....swoop up a bunch.

Why? I'm not saying you are wrong but what are you basing your thoughts on? 50AE has never been very popular but I've never had trouble finding it on the internet. I have about 300 rounds stashed, but if what you say is true, I will start stashing some more.

The .50AE has NEVER been that popular. Even in it's conception. There are only a couple of manufacturers that chamber for it nowadays.
It's not a true half incher. It measures .510". The bullets available are not overly abundent. Not like the .500 S&W which is .500". You can even use muzzle loader bullets for the true .500's.Especially the Power Belt brand. How many different weight/style bullets are available, that would be applicaple to use in the DE or BFR(pistols) ??
Other calibers have come along that will easily surpass the AE in power. Several that come to mind are the .50 Boewulf,.458 SOCOM,.458 L&W,.454 Casull,.50 S&W,and even the .460 S&W. I'm sure that there are others in the > .452" class.
Now don't get me wrong,if you want to own/shoot a .50AE that's fine. Hell, I own/shoot/reload for a .50 Beowulf. I simply feel that if I owned a AE,I would buy(now) bullets,brass,and dies. I'm stockin' up for my Wulf.
What will the dems. consider the first targets. The weapons that have"no other purpose other than to kill the innocents"and BLAH,BLAH,BLAH. You can imagine how that will play out.
All good points. I also have a 44mag barrel for my DE so I guess, worst case scenario, I could still shoot it even if the 50AE supply dries up. But, I always pick up my brass and save it!

The 50 AE is .500 in diameter, same as 500SW.
The only tangible bullet difference other than weight being the 500SW is a roll crimped cartridge and loads best with a bullet with a cannelure. The 50AE is a taper crimp round, so no cannelure.
Many loaders have used the bullets interchangeably with mixed results.

You might want to try Gold Dot ammo. I've been impressed with it ,

With all the screaming about .50 cal. weapons, don't be suprized if the DE gets included in with the .50 BMG. For that matter, the anti-gunners know ***** about guns so they'll probably ban muzzle loaders too. I'm getting all the components to load and all the factroy stuff I can afford now!!!
I Shoot the .44 desert eagle and I'm glad of this choice. The AE ammo is really expensive to buy here in NZ, so if I was going to get the barrel/mag combo I would put an order into Starline for 2000 cases and a heap of 50AE lead. That should last a while.
Luckily the ol trusty .44 magnum is common as, so no problems there...however I might have to work on my ammo stash should SHTF in any WSOF. Even the 44 is worth reloading, its over $50 a box of 50 here!! Jeebus!
Our local shops keep telling me that lead has gone up in price so if you are looking to stock up on projectiles then now is best. Its about double the price it was 2 years ago I think.
