Just bought a new Walther P22, and I have a few questions that the "manual" does not cover.
1. Can I dry fire this pistol without hurting it?
2. Unlike my Glocks, this gun does not appear to require speaial lubricant for the slide. What do other P 22 owners use to lube the slide?
3. Anyone have any sugestions on which ammo brands to stay AWAY from?
Thanks

1) I believe the rule of thumb is do not dry fire any .22LR weapon.
3) From forum posts, it sounds like each P22 is different on which ammo they like or don't like.

:) I have had my P22 for about 6 months and really like it. It is a fun gun to plink with and so far I have not had any problems with any of the ammunition I have tried. This includes the least expensive WalMart bricks to the best hollow points from the gun store. There are probably more accurate pistols, but it's fine for me, I am not a competition shooter. I like the design and feel of the gun, I did put on the larger back strap for a better grip for my hand. I hope you have the same luck and fun with yours.

Do you have the 3 1/2" or 5" barrel? Mine came with the 3 1/2, but I'm told a 5 would be better for plink'n. The whole reason I bought the P22 was to give my 10 year old son some experiance with a pistol rather than a BB gun. IMO it should be a great gun to learn with. :wavey:

I just bought the P22 in 3.4" barrel. This is a good pistol for plinking according to Gun Tests publication. They liked the 3.4" barrel over the 5".

my p22 is a 3" also, and it eats any ammo I've thrown at it, except CCI Stingers, which have a funky extended case, so they just didn't feed well.
i can't see a 5" being more accurate. if you want to fix accuracy, get some better sights on it. the stock ones lose zero a little too easily on some of the p22's.
and yeah, its a hell of a fun plinker. you won't win any gold medals, but it'll fire til its full of crap...and still fire.
I've had mine for two years now. Love this
gun. I've the 5 inch model, olive drab. It took
about 100 rounds of CCI high velocity for the break in.
Now, it will eat anything. Just keep it clean and oiled.
Sure, other 22s I'had over the years were more accurate--but the P22 is so much more fun to shoot. Good gun.
