I am about to purchase a new Mossberg 500 Special Purpose, 12 ga., with the 20" barrel. The increase in coyotes around the house (and they are becoming more brave) has led to me wanting something a little quicker than my other shotgun. A few quick questions with an apology if this has been done waaaay to many times, but I need some advice.
1. What, if anything, would be the first thing you would do to/for this weapon (after testing for function/reliability)? Please limit it to two.
2. I am wanting to keep the weapon as close to stock as possible. So far the only thing I don't like is the bead front sight. What, if any, is a good replacement? I'm looking at a Hi-Viz replacement - pros or cons?
3. I'm using this primarily for coyotes close to the house because there are homes close enough to make me nervous about using a rifle. For that reason I am not looking at slugs. Being here in Alabama, this is new to me. What would be a good load for coyotes (perhaps some of you guys from out West could help)? For HD I would use 2 3/4 OO buck. My wife may use this weapon, she is not a regular shooter. Would #4 buck be OK as a stopper while giving a respite in recoil?
Thanks again.
