View Full Version : Odd malfunction(?) problem

New G30, only had time to hand cycle some ammo through it so far. Immediately encountered problems:
Chambered round gets about half way out of the chamber during extraction and then seems to hit something (only with a loaded mag inserted) requiring quite a bit of excessive force to overcome and eject the round. I am not doing this with fully loaded mags, so there is very litte upward pressure from that area.
This happened with S&B 230 FMJ, and WW 230 BEB which have varying overall lengths - as do the rounds that worked without issue.
This did no happen with Gold dot, Golden saber, Taurus Hex, Corbon DPX, Corbon Pow'r'ball, or PMC 230gr FMJ.
The type of round(s) in the magazine have no effect on what happens, only the round in the chamber.
I am going to take it out and shoot it some today, but was wondering if anyone else has encountered this or might have some insight as to what is happening. Calipers have yielded nothing obvious.. and there is no obvious point of impact between the extracting case and the next cartridge in line.

Apparently the issue I described above has no effect whatsoever on function during actual firing and cycling. I just rid myself of the "problem ammo" by putting it downrange as fast as I could pull the trigger and reload the magazines. I tried at least 4 ammo configurations and a total of about 100rds without a hiccup.
Time to order some sights and a holster.. this thing is a joy to shoot
I have the exact same issue with my glock 30. I first noticed it after about 2000 rounds when the rounds upon ejection would either hit me in the head or go over my sholder. The gun never failed to fire/cycle, but my fear is that it will get worse and fail or damage internal parts.
This happened with two different shooters and three different types of ammo. Three clips were used with the same results. The ammo used was gold dot, blazer and magtech. Did you notice that when hand cycled the rounds had a deep "ding" in the casing and a long "scratch" inline with the ejector? I am at a loss with this one.

Don't remember this ever happening but my 30 was new about 8,000 rounds ago or more..... been a while.
The rounds ejecting all over will generally go away as the gun breaks in. My brother has a 1991A1 Colt that when new ejected left, right, forward, backward, straight back, straight up and straight forward for about 200 rounds, then steadily ejected forward right ever after.
I had a couple others that have done so as well.
For carry and combat use I recommend the XS Big Dot sights, and the Comp-Tac C-TAC (or new Infidel) holster.
The Big Dots take a little getting used to but are accurate, fast as hell and the best thing for shooting while moving and achieving fast accurate hits in a combat enviroment (not target sights, but I've made a pair of headshots at 50 yards offhand, and wasn't even trying....)

My ejected rounds have a tendency to hit me in the head. I had to start wearing a hat because a case slipped behind my glasses and burned my eyelid. As far as I can tell the gun is in fine shape. I try and take good care of it.

The first 100 or so rounds had pretty scattered ejection.
Now, I can almost put out a 5-gallon bucket and kick them in there. Almost.
Just wondering if any of you have tried to hand cycle the 30 with a full or partially full magazine. If so, did it cycle smoothly and eject the bullets without a problem? Were the bullets dinged or scratched?

Cycles smoothly with no visible damage to the casings. Cycles fine while shooting, the brass just hits me in the head sometimes.
I took my G30 to the range again determined to figure why it was not functioning properly. It seems to be the ammo. I hate not knowing why someting got fixed.
When I first bought the G30 I fired many rounds of MagTech with good results. Recently they appeared to cause the problem mentioned above. I tried several other brands of ammo and they had the same problem.
When I went to range recently I brought Blazer FMJ ammo and fired 50 rounds. By the second magazine the problem cleared up and the gun functions smooth as silk.
Again I don't know why, but my advice is to try different ammo and fire it until the problem ends.

my 30 seem to choke a bit now and then, jamming fmj's even on the feed ramp or just not going all the way back into battery. i think i need a new recoil spring. we'll see.
