Anybody else write anything new for Christmas?
PRESENTS (THEM)
Oh, Christmastime’s when we will reckon
What good gifts to give daughter and son;
The measure isn’t purse, but love beyond
Those earthly things that can be boughten
Yes, trains and drums, dolls and crayons,
Great books their horizons for to broaden;
But, more, a world where men have chosen
To live, if not in peace, then with reason.
PRESENTS (US)
We who have more yesterdays than tomorrows
Know Life’s debt mounts with every cockcrow.
Our gifts were given at the start, long ago
When, instant, time and space came from limbo
What is it to believe His eye is on the sparrow,
And sees (though He might not stop) the arrow?
Life's a present in all its meanings; to be, ergo -
Now taking leave of here is not a final deathblow.
