View Full Version : Vltor handguard?
I'm considering purchasing the CASV handguard/rail system for my new M4A3 and was wondering if anyone has experience with one. I recently acquired a new Eotech and was wondering if the additional height of the Vltor rail would still allow me to co-wittness with a B.M.A.S. rear flip up. Other opinions and comments are welcome, I think...

The Vltor rail is very nice, but you aren't going to be able to cowitness with an Eotech. They work nicely with Aimpoint, tripower, or similar optics that can be mounted lower.

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to know. It's unfortunate, though. I really like the look. I also like the S.I.R. rail, but they're kinda pricey. Any other suggestions?

Why do you want it to co-witness? IMO absolute co-witness sucks but that's just my opinion. Having your eo-tech a bit higher is much less cluttered. If you're set on co-witness try out a Samson or Midwest industries rail setup. The new DD is also "Monolithic" which makes mounting an eo-tech on it great.

If your optic goes down, you cannot use your irons. Co-witness is a must IMHO.
With that said, there are two different types of co-witness. An "absolute" and a lower 1/3. The absolut puts irons in the middle of the optic and the other puts your irons in the very bottom of your optics window.
Most people seem to prefer the lower 1/3 co-witness because it offers less clutter in your FOV.

Great points both ways. Will the Vltor allow a bottom third cowitness?

That's actually what I was talking about. I have my Eo-Tech setup to absolutly co-witness right now but I have a rear flip sight so it's not an issue. If I were stuck with full time Irons I'd want lower 1/3 co-witness, as IMO it's too cluttered trying to find your eo-tech reticle looking through a peep sight.

No. You actually cannot use your irons with the EOTech mounted onto the VLTOR CASV.
