Took my new AR out to the range today. Too much fun! I thought the range had a 25 yard rifle position and I had read that by zeroing at 3/8 of an inch under at 25 yards that that would be the same as zeroing at 25 yards. When I got to the range, I was told that the 25 yard range was only for pistols. I had to use the 50 yard range.
Since I didn't want to waste a trip, I sighted in at 50 yards. So here's my question, how does this affect the use of "battle zero?" I understand that if I had sighted in at 25 meters using the military instructions then I would be fine out to 300 meters then could adjust the elevation using the graduation marks on the rear sight for distances out to 600 meters. Since I sighted in at 50 yards instead, how does that affect the use of the calibration?
I'm not sure if I'm explaining this well. Hopefully someone will understand what I'm trying to ask. If it helps, I'm using the RRA dominator rear sight. It's marked 6/3. I then dialed it up 2 clicks per instructions. That position was marked with a "z" which I guessed meant it was for zeroing the weapon.
Hope someone can help.
