View Full Version : New green lasers for use in the day? Real use for lasers NEWAY?
I was wondering if the new green lasers are for use in the day time? And also, from my knowledge, it seems that the use of a laser in the night, would only give the opponent a bright light to shoot at? I know everyone thinks of the laser at just a beam, but when you are trying to get you laser on to you target, as soon as it is switched on, it becomes a BRIGHT RED TARGET! I DO NOT GET IT! Unless the BG does not see you, which brings alot of legal issues, a laser is useless, because once he turns his head, he sees a big red dot to shoot at.
Yep Im sure everone will wait for the BG to see them before they shoot:rofl:
Many green lasers are converted Infrared lasers with a filter array that converts the beam to Green though several steps. It is usually over the legal limits for power and very sensitive to shock. So if it is dropped it comes out of alingnment, breaks easily.
Well the thing is BIGHURT, that you really cant shoot someone in the back. And I was talking about maybe at NIGHT, like what I posted, if someone was coming into your house, and they were packing.

1) Supposedly, the new green lasers will be better suited to daylight use, as they are intrinsically brighter. LaserMax announced a new green laser a few months ago, other companies have offered them for some time.
2) You have to view most lasers nearly dead-on, to spot them. It is true that once the perp sees it, your position is known; conversely, the perp knows he's targeted too! Consider the infrared laser--you need to wear special glasses to see it.
3) Once he turns his head, if he's armed, you may choose to shoot. In a situation where he's armed with say, a knife, he should be pretty much convinced that you're not going to miss... Many cops and some military people have reported bad guys becoming all kinds of cooperative when they see a laser designator on them! A laser also allows you to hold a target without sighting down the barrel--you can use your two eyes to assess the situation, and a free hand to call 911.

On a final note, I noticed in the Alien Vs. Predator movie, the good guys had high output green lasers on their rifles--you could see the beams in mid air!--which did a swell job of pointing out their positions to the bad guys at all times! Dumb! :freak:

If its at night you will need a light to identify the intruder anyway, no?
