A couple of years ago, I picked up a first year production example of the 44 Carbine at an estate sale in excellent condition. It has been sitting in the safe since purchase.
However, one of my co-workers needed a suitable firearm for his 9-year old son to use for a central Alabama deer hunt the first week in January. I figured the shorter reach of the carbine and the milder recoil might be just what he needed.
So, I pulled it out of the safe yesterday and flew it up to Luverne, AL to deliver to another co-worker who is coordinating the hunt. After a little mid-day target shooting to assure proper function and decent POI/POA, we decided to spend a few hours in some trees stands on different green fields on his property.
At 4:45pm, a nice 5 point (4 + 1 brow tine) buck weighing 125-135 pounds (decent size for that part of Alabama) ventured out of a swampy area and into my green field. One shot of Wally World WWB 240 grain JSP from 35-40 yards dropped him in his tracks.
No better way to start the holiday than with a little spontaneous hunt and a day and night flight on a beautiful day!

Sausage, burgers, and tenderloins on the way from the processor soon...
After the addition of some optics, this fine little carbine might become my preferred brush gun. Until then, I left it for the youngster to use.
