Our good buddy the young man Jonathan recently got himself those nifty tan grips for his 1991, and I had told him (numerous times) how much I liked the black rubber grips that his gun came with. Well, the young man came through and sent those grips my way. I'm telling you folks, young uns like Jonathan give me hope for the future of America :patriot:
Thanks again J. I really like the way the black grips look on the blued gun... and even more, I like the way they feel. Especially when carrying but they also feel great in the hand.
Here are some pics of the grips on the gun, riding in the VM2 (http://www.miltsparks.com/VM-2.htm):

...and if by chance my gun wants to go to the mallninja school of uber-tactical, it can ride in the Comp-Tac (http://comp-tac.com/ct_paddle.html):

...and here are the grips, in the nude:

Damn, there's a world of difference between the finish on yours and mine

Jonathon's always struck me as a fine young man.
But Scott, get that 1911 out of that kydex! Blasphemy!
I put a set of those on a modified original 70 series and man they feel good when you shoot.;)

It's always nice to see a person make a totally unselfish and kind gesture that they are under absolutely no obligation to make. RAOK (Random Acts Of Kindness) rule!
Good job Jonathon!
Scott, that is a beautiful Colt! How old is that one? I really love the looks of that. There may be "better" more modern guns out there, but nothing beats the looks of a good 1911. Can a gun be called sexy?

Yeah, I agree. the Kydex is really more for the Springfield. But I had to take a uber tactical all-black pic for the mallninjas. ;)

Fred Fred, it's less than a year old. Thanks for the comment, I agree, it has the old school appeal. I wanted a gun very much like the one my grandfather carried in the Phillipines in the early forties. I should have sprung for the series 70 reissue but c'est la vie. This one is the series 80 reissue.

Uh, that would be New Guinea, not the Phillipines, right? Or are you referring to a different grandfather?
Dad
Wow; with that trigger, thumb and grip safetys, sights, hammer, and what looks like a lovely patina in your pics, you would be hard pressed to convince me that one was anything less than 60 years old! I was a little confused about the, um, is it mainspring housing (?). Were they origionally curved like that?
At any rate, what a beaut. Now, where can I get one? I would love to have an origional 1911 non-A1 myself, but I suspect that may be unrealistic.
The difference between 80 and 70 series is the 80 has the added (and arguably unnessary) internal safety that kills the trigger pull, right? Is that the reason you would have gone with the 70 series, given the choice?
My grandfather was in the Philippines in WWII himself; luckily he lived to tell me about it. I just came back from Manila (step son's funeral), and while I was there I visited the WWII Memorial Cemetary. Haunting; I'll post pics. I cried like a sissy.

Colt is making a non-A1 repro now. It's the real thing.

On a different note, the grips really are trivial compared to the MSH Scott got me :)

Ok, yeah. I went back and dug out my letters from Dad and he did indeed say New Guinea, no the Phillipines. I'm not sure how I got that turned around in my head. My mistake.
WTH is New Guinea?
