It's a Bushy. :hearts:
I can't wait for the weekend, and yes, I'll try to remember the camera.
Looks like you Louisiana boys are preparing for the next storm.
It's always nice when Santa brings guns!!

Whatever it may be, we're ready, willing, and able. Katrina was good practice for my survival skills; 78 days with no power, 36 days without water, no food, gas or ice for many, many miles. Got through just fine. (Thanks to pool water and camping gear)
One never will know what tomorrow is to bring, thus preparedness is essential. Every trip to the range I see more and more of us with adequate or better firepower.
BTW, my new toy is just for plinking. ;) ;)

Nice AR LA_357SIG,
It's nice to see my local compadres so well equipped!!
Keep your side the lake safe, and I'll take care of mine. If you ever want to go shooting together, PM me and we'll visit one of the local ranges.
Let us know how that 6.8 shoots, it's an interesting round indeed.

Enjoy your carbine. Would you take a few minutes to post some further pertinent observations on stakings, extractor spring assembly, hammer and disco markings, bolt carrier, etc, as in other threads? Thanks.

Uhhh....I'm, like, still trying to figure out what all those pieces are! I haven't shot it yet, but I did take it apart, per instructions, and cleaned/lubed it.
The receiver has blotches of oil residue around edges and pins, I'd like to get rid of those.
Next, I want to find 4 or 6 more quality 30rd. mags to keep with it.
BTW, didn't disco go out back in the late 70's?

NICE! You have a very nice new toy. Just feed it good quality ammo and you won't have any problems with it. Don't pay any mind to the Bushy bashers that will tell you that all your parts will break, and you need to go out and buy all new upper parts right away. Only thing you need is to go out and buy as many quality magazines as your finance allows. It's a good rifle so be happy. NICE!

If you are talking about the dark areas and light areas, you just need to apply a light coating of oil over both receivers. They have a bead blasted type of texture and I think manganese phosphate finish. Once you coat the whole thing, it will look better.
Enjoy the carbine. I recently got a BM M4-style and it shoots great out of the box. They dialed in the iron sights at the factory.
wow congrats, great looking rifles you both got there:thumbsup:

Ah, if only that was true! The simple fact is that ALL AR's go down (is just a matter of time). Carrying spare parts is a ALWAYS a good idea. Bolts seem to break the most in BM's so I would carry a spare one for sure.

I do agree it's not a bad idea to carry spare parts. Even Colt and LMT bolts CAN and will break if used enough. I don't think the average shooter really needs to worry about buying a spare bolt first thing on a brand NEW rifle in the first week of ownership. I mean really, how many folks purchase there first NEW AR15 and a new spare bolt to go with it? In these times a new AR owner should concentrate on spare mags and ammo first, especially since prices are going up. I went to the rifle range today since it was a beautiful day and asked seven shooters, how many of you went and purchased a new bolt when you bought your first new AR15. Answer, NONE not a one. I have many many Bushmaster bolts I've bought over the last 12 years and not one has broke, so the BM bolt breaking is here say to me. Thats going off my own experience and not some ones elses heresay.
You only got one box of ammo? Cheapskates!
Seriously, nice weapons. If I didn't already have mine I'd be jealous.

I would disagree. I have seen BM bolts go down in 100 rounds!
That is exactly the problem. Most people do not know anything AR's and do not know that what kind of PM's they need to do or to carry a spare bolt, firing pin, cam pin, retaining pin, buffer spring, extractor spring and extractor insert (black). Ignorance isn't bliss and asking people that know next to nothing about AR's if they should carry spare parts is just about worthless. Now go and ask that same question to a professional instructor and see what answer they give you!
Go take some training (with guys like Pat Rogers) and ask to see the log book of broken parts. You will change your mind. Just because you haven't seen it happen and the seven guys at the range that shoot 100rds a month haven't seen it, doesn't mean that it doesn't happen.

This really is not the thread to discuss this in. First, these seven guys your knocking travel the US shooting Highpower Matches. So how would you know how many rounds a month they shoot? Why don't you start a new thread and ask who has actually broken a new Bushmaster bolt? And lets leave out the here say, like your other brother Darrel has a sister named Cheryl that broke her new Bushmaster. Let's take this somewhere else.

It is easy for me to know how many rounds they shoot. If they DON'T carry spare parts for the AR (like Bolts) then they aren't shooting enough. Anyone that runs AT LEAST 5K through their AR a year or attends training classes, WILL CARRY SPARE PARTS.
I don't know of many new BM, Oly, RRA, etc bolts breaking early on (think it is most likely a fluke). They do however break.
Just as an FYI, I NEVER operate on "hearsay" as I do not gain my knowledge from the errornet. My knowledge comes from my customers breaking things, shooting classes, and talking with industry professionals about which AR's they see go down in classes.
The two most broken parts in an AR are the Bolt and the Extractor. The most worn parts are the extractor spring, extractor insert and the buffer spring. Anyone that does not recognize that these parts break and wear out is a fool in my book. People need to understand how they gun operates, what breaks the most and how to do PM's on their AR's.
I do agree that this thread is not the proper place for this discussion, but I cannot let you tell people that it is ok to not carry spare parts (like bolts) as it is just stupid.
