View Full Version : PM9 Slide Won't Lock Back

Just got a new PM9-- everything looked fine initially-- the slide would lock back until I took it apart for initial lubrication. When I put it back together though, the slide won't lock back. Not at all- either manually or with a magazine. There was one thread similar to this in the search-- the owner never really explained what happened but mentioned that the problem has gone away. What is going on? The fact that I can't even manually lock it back really worries me-- no matter how I assembled the thing, the slide stop should still be able to get up to the slide to hold it.
I had the same exact problem with my PM9 purchased April '05, serial #VB 46XX. It locked back a couple of times when I picked it up at the dealer and was checking it out. When I got home and broke it down, cleaned/lubed and reassembled, it would not lock back manually or otherwise. I hadn't even shot it yet! Unfortunately, it had to go back to Kahr before I ever got to shoot it. The invoice they sent back with it said they replaced the slide stop spring, slide stop, and the recoil spring (on a brand new gun!). The good news, is that it has been reliable ever since. I've put 1600 rounds through it to date. If I'd have known that's what the problem was, they could have sent me the parts and I could have installed them myself! I hope this helps. I know how frustrated I was when I had that problem right out of the box! I couldn't hardly wait to take it to the range and try it out, but instead I ended up having to send it back to Kahr before ever shooting it! Maybe you won't have to go through that.
Good luck,

P.S. Let us know how it turns out.

It sounds like when you installed the Slide Stop you missed the Slide Stop Spring in the frame of the gun. Pull the Slide Stop out of the gun. When you reinstall the Slide Stop make sure you get the Slide Stop Spring to catch the top of the landing on the Slide Stop. At first the Slide Stop must be inserted at 4:00 o'clock, then as you push it in further you turn it to the 3:00 o'clock, thus ensuring the spring is in the right spot. Look closely you will see what I am referring to.
Good luck:thumbsup:
