View Full Version : Pic request - K9 with wood grips
Hi All,
I'm thinking about ordering some wooden grips to pretty up my little stainless Kahr K9.
Does anyone have some pics that they'd like to post of their K9's or K40's with wood grips?
Thanks in advance.

I can't find any pics of that, but I have seen them before. One word: beautiful!
Go to the Kahr website and look at the T9 with wood grips; that's what it will roughly look like. I love the look.

Keep in mind, if you change to the wood grips, you might have to shorten the grip screws.
Thanks Halo Jumper,
I had that problem with a Beretta once. The screws were a tad too long with the wooden grips and they interfered with the mag.
How do you shorten the screws properly? Do I just grind down the tips or use a hack saw? How do I do this without damaging the thread?

I cheated. I went back to the original grips, since I decided to put it back in my rotation of carry guns (and because I didn't want to mess with the screws). I posted that question here a while ago. If you search on that you'll find some helpful ideas.

There is no need to fool around with shortening grip screws. You either buy shorter screws (the same thread as 1911 - so you can get these anywhere 1911 accessories are sold - including eBay) or you go to your local friendly Home Depot and buy a bag of small rubber grommets that fit in the screw holes. Sometimes you may have to do both because even the short style screws may be a tad too long.
Benefit of these shorter screws is that you have a choice of either flat screwdriver slots or allan style.
Unfortunately, the Hogue aftermarket wood grips (distributed by Kahr) are not always in uniform thickness and therein lies the problem.
Good luck

The rubber grommets sounded a little too TPT to me, so I decided not to do that.
Here's a pic of my K9 with the Hogue checkered Pau Ferro grips. Just ignore the CZ RAMI in the pic.

I'm normally not a fan of wood grips, but I have to admit that the T9 and the K9 look great in them. Some guns look terrible in them, but not these two. It looks comfortable, and I bet it would be great for pocket carry; smooth.
I got some K9 wood grips from a member here and they are awesome... pardon the bling picture here -- i was bored
the grips feel great to shoot with, and really make the gun look snazzy

jp233,
Your K9 with the wood grips is ticking me off! I love that thing and I might have to start shopping today. I was just informed by one of my kids that I have 1 less pistol in my collection than kids. He said if I croaked today, there's a mismatch.
Has it been reliable for you? Accurate?
I can't speak for everyone else, but my K9 has been 100% reliable. To be fair, it is an older nickel model from 1996; however, my brother bought a K9 in Oct. '05 and his has been 100% reliable also. I think he's put around 700-800 rounds through his so far without a malfunction of any kind. I've put just short of 1900 rounds through mine to date. As far as malfunctions, out of almost 1900 rounds I've had one stovepipe. That's it, and that was probably my fault (limp wristing or something). I think the K9 is a fine pistol that looks good too!

I neglected to address the accuracy question. Let's just say it's plenty accurate for such a small package. Here's an example of a target from 15 yards. Put 100 out of 100 shots on the target.

Not bad! Take out a few fliers there (probably 1st shot fliers), and you've got a nice grouping @ 15-yards.
I'm wanting a nice steel gun to accompany the polywunders that I have now. Tonight, my neighbor brought over his brand spankin' new Dan Wesson 1911 DW Commander Cls Bobtail; this baby is all steel! I've never owned a 1911 and really have never considered one before, but this thing was gorgeous. The look, feel, trigger, quality, etc. was simply impeccable. He got it for $817 I believe. It wouldn't tuck away like a K9, but it would be great range and home defense pistol. It looks and feels like it would last forever.
MtnDewd and JP223,
Thanks for the nice pics!
dang I almost forgot all about posting that pic -- d'oh
i am definitely very heppy with the wood grips it totally changes how the pistol looks and also feels great -- the rubber ones were a tad bit worn.
My K9 Elite 98 was made in 2001 and has been 99.99% reliable. Its pretty accurate too, even with el cheapo WWB fmj ammo. I just put about 200 rounds through it yesterday (with said el cheapo ammo) and zero problems, like always.
I am looking to get an MK9 to accompany the K9, at some point in the future --
but TommyTomTom my next pistol will be the DW Bobtail in 45..... those things are gorgeous and I will have one soon enough.
