View Full Version : RRA Vs. Bushmaster
BUCKMARK

I have been doing some research before buying a M4 variant.
From the list of parts in stock at this time I can buy a Bushmaster M4 Patrolmans Rifle for the same price as a Rock River Arms M4 that I can assemble from a upper and lower.
Both rifles have 16" chrome lined barrels and the flat top upper.
I can get these rifles in the $900 ballpark out the door.
Which one is better and why?
BTW - I looked at Stag and cant find a upper and lower in stock at this time. How often does Eagle Arms re-stock Stag parts?
Thanks guys.

You would be very satisfied with either. If you are interested in Stag (very good brand also) I would look at Aim Surplus or Rainier Arms too. Rainier Arms also has Stag lowers in stock and offers free shipping.

Wait for the stag and get a better overall firearm... FOR MUCH LESS MONEY!!
If I could only choose between the two posted though I'd go with a RRA with a chromed barrel.
I just saw a link for a Stag dealer at another forum. A Stag upper and lower for $710 shipped seems like a good deal. I know nothing about this dealer so I can't comment on their reputation.

I have a BM patrolman, but think that I'd be happy with a RRA or Stag. I like the M4-style barrel profile. Not sure if RRA makes one though.

I would go with the Stag as well.
I don't have any Stag uppers in stock, but do have their stripped lowers and with LPK installed. I can build them to order with VLTOR, Magpul, Stag or LMT collapsible stocks as well. You can also choose your buffer and spring (stock several brands and weights).

They have done limited runs of the "light under the handguards" M4 style barrels, but in general they don't make them in that configuration, as of right now anyways...
And they don't do chrome lining standard... those are a couple of my biggest complaints with RRA.

Of the two listed, Bushmater has the better barrels, RRA is better in basically every other way. But the barrel quality is no small thing on an AR. I'd call it a tossup.

I don't mind ordering a chrome lined barrel, but not having a "light under the handguards" M4 style barrel ruins the platform I think. I almost bought a 16" H-bar and thought all the talk of the M4 style was BS, but I now see the benefit. I got to handle a SS 16" AR-15 and it felt heavy compared to the M4-style.
I'd pass on a 16" RRA for this reason, but I would still consider their other rifles. They should pass the savings on to the customer at least since there is less machining involved. RRA found a good way to make an extra buck.
C4- are you still planning to sell the LMT M4?

I am a very happy owner of a 16" Heavy Barrel Bushy. I say go with the Bushmaster.
Being a lefty I will go with the STAG upper but is there a better lower to go with? The gun will be for target practice and general use. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Chris
I think you would be happy with any of the carbines mentioned.

I stock and sell LMT M4's (which is about the best M4 upper made IMHO). As you can imagine, they are in short supply these days.

I personally have a Bushy in patrolman's config. I love it, put about 2000 rds. through it at this point without any FTF no double-feeds, no jams, nothing, just flawless operation, regardles of the ammunition its been fed.

I own both of these models and I personally prefer the Bushmaster Patrolmans cabine. The RRA does have a nice trigger in it but I still like the Bushy a hair better. You can add the two-stage match trigger to the Bushy with a RRA tuned by WOA from ADCO for about $115.00. Or you can find an RRA match trigger for about $80.00. Either one of these are a nice upgrade to the Bushy for the average shooter. There are better triggers on the market but will cost considerably more than the ones mentioned. If the RRA you mention is a put together yourself, doesn't sound like a good deal. You can buy a complete new RRA rifle for less. I'm sure either one will serve you proudly.

I own rifles by Bushmaster and Rock River and I like the Rock River rifle best. The fit of the Rock River rifle is tight and everything was put together right from the factory. The Rock River 2-stage triggers are the best for the money. The bushmaster has a 1 year limited warranty and the Rock River has a life time limited warranty. You never know, but like a car, you may be glad to have a warranty years later. I would check out the prices here.linky (http://www.ar15sales.com/)
I just made the same decision. I was going to get the Bushmaster and the VP of my club suggested RRA because of the match trigger and the lifetime warranty. I did a little research. RRA is a smaller company and a little more personal too. They have a contract with the DEA.
The quality is probably the same. I went RRA because of the trigger and warranty.

+1 on the Bushmaster Patrolman's Carbine....
This guy almost always has Stag in stock. http://www.ar15sales.com/
He shipped mine very fast. If you do not see what you are looking for call him, he probably has it or can get it quick.
He sells a lot on ar15.com

Have fun!
Hi,
If none of the guys on Glocktalk can help you out...............
Another option for Stag is JKiser. I got my Stag from him back in November. Great guy, took a lot of time to try to make sure I was getting what I wanted. He was local for me and that also factored in my decision.

I love my RRA.
I prefer the heavy-under-the-handguards barrel...
So, I guess everything is perfect on it then.
I have two Bushmaster Patrolman's carbines. Flawless and accurate. I like the lighter M4 profile barrels.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy a RRA or Stag as long as it had a chrome lined barrel.
Infallible
