View Full Version : Question about AR-15 9mm reliability.
How reliably are the 9mm AR-15s?
Are the Olympic 9mm that use the Glock mags more reliably than the Colt clones?
Thanks

First let me say I have not shot a Olympic 9mm AR w/ the Glock mag well. All I have is a Oly 45 ACP upper and a ASA (Colt) 9mm clone.
Base on my experience w/ the 45, it feeds reliably from the grease gun mags I use. The Glock mag set up would have to be similar, double stack feeding to single stack (not the same). I have not had a FTF or FTE (yet).
Now, my Colt clone had some issues- never use to- but has since acted up when I switched lowers. Quality magazines is the KEY to having working, reliable Colt system. The newer polymer mags from Pro Mag (IIRC), have had good reviews. Some mag well adapters fit tighter in the 223 well better then others.

I've never shot the Oly with the Glock mags. I do know that my old green label Colt 9mm is superb.

I have a Colt and is is flawless with colt mags and colt mags only. I tried the Pro Mag clone and it was junk. It turned my rifle into a bolt action. I either wouldn't feed or push 2 and 3 rounds into the chamber. Hopes this helps.
P.S. I got to shoot a full-auto, when I was visiting my cousin who is in the DEA. That was way to much fun.

I have a RRA 9mm and it runs perfectly. One of my favorite weapons.

Is your RRA the 9mm middy? I've been thinking about purchasing one of there middy's, but I don't know anyone who owns one in 9MM. Also does the RRA except the Colt 9mm mags?

Yes it is.
I use RRA converted Uzi mags, Colt 32rd mags and Beta mags in it (all work).

Mine runs great, it utilizes the Colt/RRA design. I have no experience with the Oly type.
Here is my "silent cricket".

I use the Hahn bottom loader, but I recommend the Hahn "dedicated" mag block if your are building a permanent 9mm AR.
I use Colt mags, and will be buying a metric boatload of the new CProducts mags in both 20rd and 32rd flavors.
Ammo:
I use the Magtech 147gr subsonic and Fiochi(sp) 158gr subsonic.
My "silent cricket" is suppressed, and the use of the 115gr stuff makes it too loud.
I've read that the Oly's that use Glock mags have issues (the mags don't want to stay in the rifle). That's what I read,no experience. My RRA/DPMS works great, though I've only tried 147 grain hollow points which it did not like. With 115 grain FMJ's it is perfect. And I use the Promag plastic mags that most folks say don't work well.Mine do.I think it will work perfectly with 115 grain hollow points but have not had a chance to try them yet.I only shoot it at the range anyway,so hollow points are too spendy for that.I love it!!!:)
