The following appeared in the USAToday on 12 December 2006. It is real and I'm not making it up!

"State Rep. Edmund Kuempel filed a bill that would allow legally blind individuals to use a laser sight, or lighted pointing instrument, to hunt. The bill gives the state until Jan. 1, 2008 to come up with a definition so that a law could be enforced. The devices are forbidden for sighted hunters, and the hunter would have to carry proof of legal blindness."

20-20 is normal vision
20-200 is considered "legally blind" so someone who wears glasses and needs illumination to hunt would be allowed to do so. Not that I'd want to be on the receiving end of a laser lite and a 30-06 round at dusk!

one legally blind hunter near here had a "spotter". He used a projection laser equipped weapon, the non blind spotter had hand signals conveyed by touching the direction to move the sight from the knee. when the shot was on taget he held his hand and squeezed the hunter's kneecap. Supposedly the blind huy had taken quite a bit of game in this manner.

20/200? I have 20/300 and just graduated from the police academy. In the top ten of shooting too. That seems awfully easy to be considered "legally blind."

20/200 is legally blind if uncorrected. I'm 20/600 and make it through life, although the glasses can get pretty thick. I made it through the Academy just fine.
